I go to check on Tris. I knock on her cell door.
"Morning, Jeanine," Tris says to me.
"Morning, Tris." I smile, though I'm not understanding why she's being so nice. Is what I've guessed correct? Does she want to be a family?
Tris sighs. "I promise I won't run away. You have my word on that. I know what you are capable of doing to me and it won't change my mind. Nothing you can do will make me leave."
I stare at her in surprise. "Really? Nothing?"
Tris shook her head. "Nothing at all. I want to put our differences aside."
"But why? Don't you remember anything I've done to you?"
"Yes. I want to put that behind us. I want to be a family."
Before I could respond, Tris hugs me. I'm frozen in place.
