We make it to Dauntless. Hearing laughter and cheer in the Pit. This is Dauntless, after all. I think to myself, smiling.
"Keep your eyes peeled, Meg. Lyra can't be trusted," I whisper in Meg's ear. She nods.
I spot Lyra near the tattoo parlor. She smiles at me. I don't return the friendly smile. She approaches us.
"Hello, Sarah," Lyra greets me. "Who's your friend?" She smiles at Meg.
"Melissa," I answered. Meg gives me a side glance. I hope Lyra didn't notice. She didn't seem like she did... unless she's playing her parlor trick like she didn't.
"You left our conversation quite abruptly," Lyra reminds me.
"I had important leader business to attend to," I remind her.
"Anything I would be intrigued to hear?" Lyra asks.
"It's confidential," I said, putting more meaning to the last word.
"That's fine," Lyra said. "I was just curious."
"It was nice talking to you, Lyra," I said dismissively. She goes and I drag Meg to the apartment, locking the door and pacing the floor.
Meg sits me on the couch in the living room. "Calm down," she instructed. My body doesn't listen to me.
Meg kisses me and lays down next to me. I relax.
When I wake, Meg is nowhere in sight. Lyra has her arms around me and she smiles.
