I'm still in shock the next day. I walk around Erudite, trying to understand what exactly just happened yesterday. Why would she save me?
My daughter, Sarah, walks up. She has her Dauntless clothes on. For some reason, I think she has a thing for Caleb. I see her look at him as if she was in a dream and can never turn away from him for more than a second.
She has blond hair with blue eyes. Eric and Max must have taught her well. I told them to look after her, but I didn't explain why. They don't know she's my daughter.
They don't even know I'm Divergent. My aptitude test was when I made the discovery of their existence. My aptitude is Dauntless and Erudite. My divergence got me up to being leader of Erudite.
I was frightened of what I was, being the only one I knew. It was hard to have change. Fear of change.
"How are you, Mother?," Sarah asks. She's Divergent as well. Only she doesn't know that I know. She's been doing good in Dauntless from what Max and Eric tell me. She knows how to hide her divergence from them.
"I'm okay. Just a little... Taken by surprise.," I say.
"May I ask why?," Sarah asked.
"Just this Divergent I'm testing on...," I say.
"What happened?," Sarah asked.
"She saved my life in a simulation.," I said.
"That's interesting." She stares at Caleb as he walks by.
"Is what I just heard true?," he asked. "My sister saved you in a simulation?"
"I'm just as shocked as you are.," I said. It doesn't make sense. Why me? What changed?
Sarah stares at Caleb for a long moment and already I can feel the electricity between them. Caleb smiles at her.
I don't know what I'm going to do about Tris. Maybe she wants to be a family. I don't understand why, though. I've destroyed Abnegation and killed her parents and she knows it. I don't know what to do.
