Author's POV
"Dad this is mad. This is.... Ridiculous." It is the first thing Sangyeon says as he looks at his father like he is mad.
His father sighs as he sits down the chair. "This place has fallen too deep in the darkness of corruption and crimes. More and more people are being killed each day. More and more people are becoming corrupted. Justice no longer exist. Rich gets away with their crimes. Officers, police and media are bribed 24/7 by people with power and money. I also don't want to do this. But I want to make a last effort to make this society at least a bit better. It is time I use a method no one has used. You know what they say son, to catch a criminal you have to think like a criminal. I am going to use that saying. Of course with some differences." He says
Sangyeon frowns, "But using criminals to catch other criminals? I don't know what to make out of it dad." He says honestly.
His father takes a file from the table and hands it to him. "This file contains the information of 9 criminals. They were the criminals who were almost impossible to catch. Very clever. Dangerous but smooth in whatever they do."
Sangyeon opens the file and flips through it briefly. "What do you want me to do with it?" He asked confused.
"They are the ones I am planning to use." His father says pursuing his lips, deep in thought. Sangyeon looks at his father with wide eyes as if he had grown out extra heads. "Dad that's crazy!" He says putting the file down.
"This is the last thing I ask of you Sangyeon. I have talked to each one of them." His father says referring to the people in the file. "They are willing to do anything. If they get to have a proper life in the end. Free from the world of crime." He said with a serious face.
Sangyeon scoffs at that. "And you choose to believe them? What if they run away? What if they betray you? Or me?" He asked pointing to himself. To him his father's idea was not really making a sense.
His father cuckles, yet it sounded so empty. He stands up and opens a cabinet and pulls out a box. Sangyeon looked at the contents of the box making his confused. It was filled with a thin collar like objects.
"I had these custom made. By someone I know. These are collars but what's special about it is that it has a tracker. And once it is worn it is programmed to not come off. A password is needed for it to be taken off. Even I don't know the password. For safekeeping. Only the person who made these knows it. And if someone tries to take it off the wrong way it will electrocute the person. Can even potentially kill them. I have talked to them about this collar and they all agreed. Some took a little more time to agree but in the end they are all okay with it. So no chance of running away." He says.
Sangyeon is dumbfounded at that rate. "Just how long have you been planning for this?" He asked baffled.
"Months." His father shortly answers. Sangyeon sighs. "Are we really doing this?" He asked. His father wordlessly nods. "No one should know about this. Only me and you. Also Jacob. He is a sincere kid and not to forget hardworking." His father adds. Sangyeon nods. He still didn't really trusted his father's idea but in a world filled with crimes if his father really thinks this might be the last resort then it was worth trying.
"So what am I supposed to do in all this?" He questions. "You and Jacob will work along with them and solve the crimes that has remained unsolved for months or year due to corruption." His father replies. "But first I want you all to know each other. And make sure no one is at each other's throat." He says
"Where will they live while doing all these? We are not keeping them in our house right?" Sangyeon asked narrowing his eyes, not to be rude but he hated when strangers came to their house.
"Of course not. We are going to keep them away from the public eyes as long as we can. I have purchased a large house. Away from the city but also not too far. It is big enough for all 11 of you to stay." He says. Sangyeon sighs. Of course what did he even expected. His father really planned a lot.
"Okay. So.... Jacob knows everything about this? He agreed willingly right?" He asks. "Yes. And son this is not just anything. Treat this as a mission. I can't promise things won't go wrong but we have to do our best to make sure everything goes right. Criminals have forgotten the fear of police and justice. We need to bring that fear back." His father says in a serious tone.
Sangyeon hesitates a little but nods. "When will I be meeting them? From what I know they are all in prison." He asked. His father sighs. "Jacob will be bringing them. I have pulled some strings to get them out from the prison. Not legally of course. But rest assured no one can trace anything and find out it was done by me." His father says.
Sangyeon is still baffled with everything. He never realized what his father was planning. And now hearing his plan Sangyeon wondered what made his father trust the criminals. "You are dismissed. You can talk further will Jacob. Be careful." His father says.
Sangyeon picks up the file and goes to head out of the room. "Wait." His father calls out stopping him. He turns around. His father looks at him with an expression he can't read. Yet it sends a chill down his spine. "Yes dad?" He questions.
"Always remember son, a monster is not born but made. And sometimes the world and the people makes a human a monster." His father says a distant look on his face.
Sangyeon opens his mouth but closes not knowing what to say. "Okay." He says as he turns around and walks out. His father's words ringing in his head. "What really makes a monster?" He wonders.
