You guys might hate me for this chapter, I'm aware of that... Just promise to keep reading. Right now. Make a blood oath. Swear on the Angel. You must keep reading this. No matter what may happen. NO MATTER WHAT.

Also, for anybody who actually looks at any of the songs I post, it's from the point of view of Ash  thinking about Sage.

Enjoy the new chapter!

--CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE--

Ash stood in a pile of the ruins of the ancient church. Embers still swirled up in the wind, blowing through his hair, staining it from black to a sickly gray.

He had returned to his human form now, and was only a mere six feet tall. A few of the towers still rose above him, the bricks falling and clattering to the ground in the heavy breeze.

He sat down among the debris, wrapping his long, thin arms around his legs. He let misery boil over in his heart, his mind, consuming everything.

Had Sage really changed him? Changed him to the point where she had broken the dreadful curse?

But no, he could still turn into the Slender Man, so the curse was not entirely gone. Perhaps his agony had just subsided it for that moment.

Again, as he had ever since she had left, he thought of Sage’s shining face. Her sparkling jade eyes looking up at him with affection, her freckled cheeks turning from alabaster to pink with passion. He could precisely remember how her full lips turned up into a challenging smile every time he said something that would test her.

With relish he remembered catching her dancing in the ballroom. Had it really only been a few days ago?

He could recall her delicate body as it curved in such a manor that should surely be impossible. She had looked so desirable that night, so absolutely perfect.

And kissing her down in the tiny room after that, getting to feel her flexible body against his own. It had been pure ecstasy.

He supposed Sage was something of a drug to him. He couldn’t control himself when he was around her, and had to take hits of her, in the manner of stolen kisses, anytime she was near.

And know he was going through withdraw symptoms. Although, rather than shaking and blacking out, he was tearing up and praying for more. Even just a tiny glimpse of her angelic face. Just one, he told himself, and that would be enough.

But he knew full well that he would need more than one look at her. Just one look at Sage was like just smoking one cigarette, or just having one drink; it was simply impossible after you’ve become addicted.

A quiet rustling in the trees brought him back in tune with the real world. He looked up quickly; his head jerking up like a deer who sensed danger.

Slowly the slim figure of a woman appeared, her long fair hair blowing in the gentle wind.

His heart contracted, for at first he had thought it was his dearest drug, come back to save him his personal hell. But with closer inspection of the silhouette, he realized that this woman was a few inches too tall to be Sage, and her hair was slightly more golden, looking less like spun silver and more like a shinning gold coin.

As she came closer, and her features became clearer, his heart stopped in his chest. The blood running in his veins turned to jagged ice, freezing on its way to his heart. Shock, surprise, and anguish ran through him. It couldn’t be. It was impossible.
