"Well, well." Said the old warlock looking at her healthy countenance. "I see you are better."
"What do you want?"
"The King asked for your presence this evening and said it was unacceptable for a princess, a guest of this court not to dine with the other guest. He said it was a great disrespect and that you had been ill far too long so he sent me to check of you were really sick."
"Mmh" she murmured taking off her boot. "I have plans with Lancelot, we are supposed to go check on the Mildred's farm."
"He cannot deny the king what he asked and nor can you." Merlin sited on the bed next to her and she made every possible effort not to look him in the eyes.
"How are you?" he genuinely inquired and she snapped an angry look at him.
"Like I'm doing my best not to think about how I feel." Merlin nodded placing his temple on his rod.
"Next week is going to be though." Gwen stopped moving and stared at her hands, about to dig her nails into her skin. "Even though you feel betrayed by him. He had no choice in the matter. You shouldn't stop fighting for..."
"He did it first. He let me go and gave up on me. I'm just finishing the job." She clarified
"Agreed." Replied Merlin and then glared at her with his crocked smile. "Now what do you plan on doing?"
"Nothing. I can do nothing."
"You could go to dinner tonight. Tell him that he hurt you."
She couldn't. Just the thought of seeing him next to that other girl, blocked the air in her lungs.
"I'm going but I'll not be charming." Merlin laughed hard at that exclamation.
"You are many things, Gwen my child, but charming..." she grabbed her shoe and threw it at him."Here," he made a beautiful red dress appear. It was the same color of the Pendragon Banner, with the same... "I cannot do that."
"What?" he acted like he didn't know but he always knew. Merlin never did anything without planning it carefully and this time she wasn't having it.
"Act like I have a chance. What right have I to walk out there wearing the Pendragon emblem, I'm not the Queen of this place. I stand no chance."
"She is not what he wants." Simply retorted Merlin.
"Nor am I."
"If you think so, then don't go tonight. But a Queen is so much more than what you think. She needs to be strong and something that makes you want to die for. You can be all those things Gwen. You are, all those things to certain people already. You're blinded by the evil that is still clinging in your life. You'll see very soon how it's the people that choose the Queen not the other way around." And he left. He did it constantly. Came in, spit a sentence like it's a prophecy and then leaves. It made Gwen mad so much she decided not to go.
She pretended to be asleep and didn't answer Lancelot when he came to knock on the door.
The next morning, she put on her usual leather pants, a shirt and the gilet and head to the village like every morning.
"Madonna Gwen!" Salute Fred as soon as she put the wood down and accelerate her pace to meet him. Fred was a heavy man that baked cookies and had the order from Gwen to give treats once a week to the kids. She sent the bill to Camelot and Lancelot closed an eye, since she had been gentler toward him so it was a sacrifice, he could make.
"I have an amazing cake I wanted you to try!" Gwen didn't talk much to be fair, but they didn't seem to mind. They were more than happy if she just smiled.
