"There has to be a way to get out." Arthur demanded and Merlin again shook his head.
"Unless you have a magic tunnel that bypasses the whole castle by running underneath it, I highly doubt it." Both Goregin and Arthur turned and stared into each other's eyes. Gwen's brother unlocked his arms and raised a finger.
"Actually, this castle was built over a very intricated set of underground tunnels."
Goregin was fast on his feet as he went into a room next to the throne room and came out holding a map that he laid on the pavement. Arthur kneeled followed by Gawain and Percy. They all looked at the paper in front of them and eventually, Goregin spotted the tunnel they were looking for.
"If we take this one, we should be able to get there in a short amount of time." Goregin proposed and Arthur agreed. He was already moving toward the door when Merlin stopped him with his rod.
"Those tunnels have been unexplored probably for many years, who knows what creatures chose it as its home. Camelot needs one ruler, if both of you die, it would be the end of it." He jerked the rod away and was so flushed, his cheeks were burning with rage. Marlin was being inconsiderate toward him and his queen. Gwen could be in danger; he was not ready to risk her life.
"If the situation were reversed, would you be able to stop Gwen from going?" Arthur asked and Merlin lowered his eyes sighing. "I thought so."
"Goregin, would you come with me?" Arthur demanded and the king nodded. "I don't see why not. I could orientate easily or at least better than you in my kingdom."
"We come too." Percy offered and ass Arthur was about to refuse, Gawain cut him off. "There is no way, you are going alone with him. He is a murder and even if he has repented, he still did unspeakable things, we will not let our king go alone." Arthur gave in and the four men head to a secret passage behind the painting of what Arthur thought to be Goregin real mother. He had seen it before, when he still believed her Gwen's mother and he remember thinking she looked nothing like her.
All this time the truth was in plain sight and none of them could see it. It must have consumed them both to live in a place where one grew with the mother that was meant for somebody else. No wonder they grew distant and ended up hating each other.
He pitied Goregin and at a certain extent could understand him. He would never forgive him for what he put Gwen through, but he got it.
They each grabbed a torch and let Merlin cast a spell so it will never turn off before being on their way, sword in the other hand.
"Once we get there," started Arthur carefully listening to their surroundings. "How do we not fall victim of the spell and lose ourselves?"
"We're going there to save Gwynnever, if our reasons are pure, we will not be touched."
"And yours are?" inquired Gawain maliciously. He did not trust Goregin, but then again, he had always been very skeptical toward anyone, even Gwen in the beginning.
"I have no longer a reason to want my sister dead." He wasn't much of a talker and in this was very similar to Gwynnever.
They were more alike than one would think.
"Oh please. You were friends with Lancelot!" Goregin's expression darkened as he eyed Gawain carefully.
"Because you think I wanted to? He was my eyes in Camelot and when he escaped it, he was useful to me. nevertheless, he could not be trusted, I knew he had one goal and was obsessed with Gwynnever. if someone came, out of nowhere and offered her to him, he would have easily betrayed me too in a blink of an eye."
