Arthur left Gwen in her room to go check on his guest that was being attended by Lancelot.
"How are you feeling, your majesty?" inquired Lancelot. Arthur could feel the tension in the room. His Knights just like himself, had witnessed the scene, they saw Gwen risking her life to save her and how she almost killed her.
"What happened in the tower?" wanted to know Arthur and Elain raised, looking offended and furious.
"Happens that your stupid woman soldier or whatever she is, tried to offer me as a snack for that tremendous monster." Arthur stopped his knights from intervening and placed his hands on the table, bending over it a little to gain all the calmness he could manage."I know you must not be accustomed to mystical creature trying to haunt you down, Queen Elain. But what Gwen was trying to do, believe it or not, was trying to get out of that trapped I put you in."
"I was safe in the tower. The thing wouldn't reach me there."
"It would have and very soon. We all could see it dig the wall as if it was just dirt, it was sharpening her claws on. Gwen, as terribly hurt as she was, climbed all the way to the tower to offer you a helping hand and you... pushed her." Elain blue eyes blinked and he knew that the accusation was very serious but it had to be done.
"Are you saying, I wanted to kill one of your stupid soldiers." Gawain moved closer but a glance from the king arrest him.
"Do you or do you not understand that my stupid soldier, made her way toward you, when the sky was full of deadly chimaeras that could have easily killed her. Nevertheless, she prioritized your life over hers, she attracted the Chimaera away from the tower. Did you or didn't you notice that all of sudden, the walls stopped shaking? Didn't you ask yourself why? Or you were too busy being self-absorbed to care?" Elain made a step forward to add.
"I'm a Queen, it is her duty to protect me. She did her job and just got lucky. I will not thank her for doing what is asked of her."
Arthur smashed the firsts to the table, almost breaking it.
"Her duty is toward Camelot and to me. You are nothing to my kingdom yet. She was not, in any way, obliged to come and save you. And from the way you speak, dear Queen Elain, maybe it was better she didn't. Since you believed her life to be worthless. "Elain shivered and widen her eyes in horror.
"I don't know what kind of sick and twisted land you live in, Queen Elain, but here in Camelot we value life, and every human being is not worth scarifying just because one sits on the right side of the table. Gwen acted following our cardinal rules and she got hurt for you, almost died for your royal head. Can you understand that? Silly girl, can you?" Lancelot grabbed Arthur by the forearm and excused him dragging him out of the room. He was fuming by now.
"Since you are so fond of her, your majesty, why don't you marry this Gwen instead? Or the royal values of Camelot do not apply when it comes to wealth and title?"
"I might, you know. At least she knows how to be useful and doesn't hide safe and sound while her people die in the streets."
"That's enough, Arthur." Lancelot pushed him out of the room and before he could add anything else, he signaled him to go to hell and head to Gwen's room.
"Talk to me Merlin?" he asked sitting on a chair nearby. "How is she?"
"She has a fever but considering the amount of stress she has been through; I'd say nothing out of the ordinary." Arthur touched her hand and placed a kiss on it. Gwen's cheeks were red and she was sweating profusely but looked peacefully asleep.
"Merlin, can you go check on Queen Elain? She might need a tranquilizer or something. I could or couldn't have upset her." Merlin complied instructing Arthur on what to do before heading out.
