Chapter 10

I'm going to post two today because I don't think ill be able to post for the next few days so

She turned to look at me, her eyes widening.

I ran towards her and untied the rope that bound her arms and legs to the chair.

"Alaina es que tú?" I said to her in Spanish "Soy yo, soy yo" she replied with tears spilling down her cheeks "Dónde has estado? ¿Qué sucedió?" I said, pulling her into a hug, "no lo sé, pero depende de la madre, y el padre, y hermano?" she asked "Cuando pasó el tiroteo, todos murieron" I whispered "acepta para ti y por mi, pero pensé que estabas muerto".

"Me llevaron, y me lavaron el cerebro" said Alaina quietly, I rocked her "todo estará bien".

"What are they saying?" Ben whispered to Miles, "don't ask me" replied Miles "I don't speak Spanish", "well maybe you should have taken the class" Ben replied, "you can't say much, you didn't take it either" retaliated Miles.

"Come" I said to Alaina, speaking in English after what felt like speaking in Spanish for ages, she nodded and followed me.

She was now 15, her hair was dark brown and wavy and she had big brown eyes.

"Guys this is my little sister, Alaina" I told them, "Hello" she said quietly, "wait I thought. ." started Miles, but I gave him the 'shut up' look.

"Nice to meet you" he said instead, Alaina smiled shyly.

Ben shook her hand awkwardly, then stepped back.

"So you're telling me" started Maria, "that this little girl is your sister", "I'm 15!" exclaimed Alaina, then muttering 'little girl' in Spanish.

"But no one has ever broken out of the brainwashing spell" Maria pointed out, "she has my blood" I told her "that has to be why".

Maria nodded, "can you help us" she said to Alaina, "I-I can't remember anything, only that the brainwash stuff wore off and I was able to escape" Alaina whispered "I was sent out on a mission when it wore off- wait have I, k-killed p-people!" "shh shh" I said, pulling her into a hug as she began to cry, "it wasn't you".

"Because of the drug or whatever caused her to be brainwashed, it must have been designed to wipe the person's memory, if it wore off" said Ben, "we need to find a way to access her memories" said Maria, "not today Maria, I need to get her feed, and she needs rest, I'll take her home and we'll come in after school tomorrow" I said.

"Very well" she said, "but you need to promise, you'll bring her in", "look, I promise, just give her some time to recover, because maybe the memories will come back on their own".

"You have 1 week" said Maria, "and if there's nothing, bring her in", "got it" I said.

We drove home in silence, it was an awkward silence, but we managed to get home without any conflict, because that's what was in the air.

Once we'd all entered the house, we immediately started discussing which room Alaina should have, because we only had three and they were all occupied.

"She can sleep in my room" I said finally, then turning to Alaina I asked "are you alright with that?", "yes that's fine" she said.

"But what if I want to sleep with you?" said Miles, I let out a huff "Miles, you have your own room for a reason, just for now, she is going to sleep in my room", "cool, but why?" "Miles, I get it we're all tired and grumpy, but we need to keep it together, I'll make some dinner and we can get some sleep".

No one wanted to argue, so I made dinner and we all ate silently not wanting to cause any tension.

I was stacking the dishes when Miles walked into the kitchen, "hey, look I'm sorry I yelled at you before, it- it's just, I'm now part of this crazy world, that I didn't even think could possibly exist, and you're always in danger and it scares me" he said, "hey it's alright" I replied "I get it, you lived what some people would call a normal life and then it got turned upside down".

He smiled "that's one way to put it", and then he placed his lips gently against mine, moving them slowly. This wasn't fast, this was slow, quiet and loving, but it still sent shivers down my spine.

I pulled away, "someone is going to see us, or walk in" I told him "it happens every time".

He started laughing, "what!?" I exclaimed, "it's true, first Daniel, then Ben, who's next?".

"You worry me" he chuckled "I'll finish these, now go get some sleep".

I smiled, giving him a quick hug before heading down the hallway towards my bedroom.

I opened the door quietly, to find Alaina lying on one side of my bed, wearing one of my t-shirts which I had lended her, I pulled on some pajamas (which for me was a tank top and sleep shorts) and crawled into bed next to her.

I let my eyelids slip shut and the events of the day circle around my head like a ferris wheel, before eventually falling into a deep sleep.
