Deborah's POV
"How far now my bro? This one you suddenly called me tonight, what's up?" He playfully asked the person on the other line and I sat there unmoving with my heart beating loudly in my chest. Could it be..? No it can't! I was just overreacting. I tried to assure myself.
I watched him with the side of my eye as he was conversing with his "friend'' and my brain was coming up with ways I was going to ask him without sounding weird exactly which "Timini" he was talking to.
"Yeah yeah that is great! I was actually thinking about that business idea but I decided to chill on it and watch how things turn out first with this one we started with... yes exactly!.... For real?...."
It felt like ages till they concluded on whatever business stuff they were talking about and I could feel the nerves coming back up."So you called me to talk about business by this time. All your life is about business, take a break for once Timini" He joked, and after a second bursted out laughing.
I involuntarily scratched my neck awkwardly and his eyes caught the act. Giving me a small smile he mouthed sorry and I forced a smile back.
Gosh! All I needed to know is who he is talking to. I was just overreacting as there are thousands of people with that name in this world.Kendrick seemed to be in the same social class as Timini so that alone made me feel my suspicions are right. They could be friends and that would be Crazy! What in the world would I do? Shit! Shit! Just calm down Deborah. You almost ruined tonight don't mess up again.
Kendrick's POV
"I relax sometimes and you know that. I just haven't been able to get this stuff off my mind and I wanted to talk to someone about it before I go crazy." He said and I snorted."Yeah you relax for sure. Very much" I said sarcastically and he chuckled making me laugh. This guy really needs a break from work!
I saw from the corner of my eye Debbie, looking a bit uncomfortable and I cursed under my breath, causing her to look at me. Giving her a small smile to make her not feel ignored, I said to Timini.
"I will catch up with you later bro. Go out tonight and have fun. Is your little sister still around?"I turned to look at Debbie when I heard her suddenly cough out. She looked a bit uncomfortable and I had to end the call as quick as I could to attend to her.
"Okay give my regards to her . I gotta go now, talk to you later.""Okay bro! Later." He replied and immediately ended the call.
Dropping my phone on my lap, I turned to look at her and said my apologies immediately." I am sorry, you have my attention now." Giving her a small smile, I couldn't help but wonder why she was looking so.. off."
She nodded a bit and returned my smile but I could still sense something was off. "It is fine. I'm good."
" Are you sure? You look a bit distracted or something. You have this expression on your face."
She immediately forced a chuckle out and it deepened my curiosity about what was going on.
"What? I'm good. Just a bit tired I guess. I'm okay."
"Ohh" I realized how she would definitely be tired because she had been out all day. From the salon to the lounge and she hadn't rested.
"You did not eat much at the lounge. Do you want me to stop at KFC to get you dinner?"
"Nah I'm good. My Aunty probably cooked already so i will eat when I get home. Definitely." She said assuringly.
"Okay then." I said.
It was quiet for a bit. "kiss me like you miss me" by the Nigerian artist Ckay was playing softly from the speakers of my car. It was one of my favorite songs and I was about to ask her what she thought of the song but when I turned to look at her she had the same distant look she had before on her face.
