YOUR POV

Reaching the meeting place, I found it empty with only Danzai sitting at the top of the staircase, smoking. Isn't the meeting supposed to be held here tonight?

"Danzai." I called his attention making him raise his head and once he did, a smirk was immediately plastered on his face.

"Heh. I knew you'd come instead of running away."

"You need not to drag Akio in my conflict with you." I glared at him, still pissed off at what he and the others did when I was not around.

"Why not? He's been loyal to you more than to me all along. I can't tolerate such behavior." He puffed out a smoke as he rested his chin on his palm while a mischievous smile made its way to his lips. "But I swear to not lay a finger on him nor his little sister... If you decide to follow me." I felt the blood rushing in me as my anger started a boiling point.

Did he really just use Yumi to threaten me?

There's no denying that this gang is already fucked up with him being the leader.

"There's no need for that because I'm quitting together with Akio." I spat. This is what I came for. This should end things. It's me who he's been holding a grudge for awhile now. I also want to fight for what the previous Higanbana members fought for bu I can't do it anymore if it risks the life of others.

A sudden image of Shinichiro's face flashed in my mind and I quickly shook the thought away, thinking it's dangerous to let my mind wander off.

"That's what you wanted, didn't you?" I clenched my fists and turned to look up at him but instead of a satisfied smirk, I was greeted by a confused and angered look from Danzai. "I'm quitting Higanbana. I'm giving up the idea of carrying the foundation of the former members." This is what should be done. This is what's right, right? If I do this, there won't be any problems with me and Shinichiro. There's no need for us to hide in fear of the possible gang issue. "I won't interfere ever again with the gang and I expect you to do the same with me, Akio and his sister... and Shinichiro."

My eyes stayed at his figure and I can see his eyebrows are furrowed in annoyance. There was a long silence between us before a laugh erupted from him. It was one of a laugh that sends unsettling chills down my spine. A maniac driven laugh. Though it certainly didn't fail to creep me out, the way his eyes met mine in a dangerous stare only made it worse.

"Why..." His laughter then died down and soon his amusement was replaced with a frown. "Why are you so stubborn?" Slowly he descended down the stairs, facing me completely.

"Can't you see? Our chance of taking down Black Dragon is right in front of us and yet because of your stupid reasoning, that very chance strays further from Higanbana." He frustratedly flail his arms around in pure irritation. Even when he's still a few steps away from me, I can feel how frustrated he's becoming.

"I knew it the from the beginning you were never trying to lead Higanbana to the better side." The moment I joined Higanbana, there had always been a tension between me and Danzai. Though I mostly ignored it all the time, having no interest in creating a fire. "You were just trying to fulfill your own satisfaction making use of the gang members." I've witnessed a lot of victims of his schemes but as a vice captain, I have no right to go against him and instead I accepted anything they make me do for the gang. "You only wanted to rule over Japan and Higanbana is just a mere stepping stone, am I right Danzai?"

He was silent as he only stare deep into my eyes with his face showing no sign of a single emotion. Soon, a clap was heard. A slow clap coming from him as he applaud.

"What a genius member you are." He smiled and I gritted my teeth. I know I can never talk him out of his madness. He's far from just needing help. It's only him who can stop all this. But unfortunately, he has a hard head for stuff like this. "But don't act so high and mighty now. We're both the same. Using Higanbana for our own benefit. Didn't you join Higanbana for something in return?" I stiffened at his words, remembering the real reason why I joined Higanbana and I clench my fists harder, feeling my nails dig into my own flesh.

"Ah that's right. In exchange for you and your relatives' protection."

I hate to admit it but all this time, we've only just been using each other. Him using Higanbana to fulfill his ambition, me using Higanbana because of my immature mindset just to be protected from the circumstances surrounding me and my family, and Higanbana using us to climb the ranks. There was never a foundation in this generation of our gang. We were never united in the first place, we're only just using one and the other for our own fit.

"You never once went against my commands until now. Not to mention you quitting all of a sudden. I wonder what happened. What is it that changed your mind, Y/N?" He took slow steps towards me but I stood my ground and watched him intently, watching every move of his. "Is it because of the Black Dragon's leader?" He circled around me while puffing a smoke from his cigarette.

"Did he promised you protection the way Higanbana did to you when you joined? Or was it something else?" I stayed silent at his question, not knowing what to answer him. I don't want to drag Shinichiro into this. He should be out of the question already as this is an issue between me and the gang... but why? Why did he have to bring him up?

"So I was right." He chuckled darkly behind me. Then I felt his finger running on a strand of my hair as he stepped to the front. "You fell in love with Black Dragon's leader, didn't you?" He leaned down to me, intimidating me to stare back at his eyes and I can already see the anger fuming in his eyes. After a moment of staring, he pulled back with his face going blank at my silent treatment.

"So the rat from Kuro Tenshi really wasn't lying at all." Puffing one last smoke, he let the cigarette fall to the ground, stepping on it in the process as he glared at the ground. "What a waste." I heard him mumble under his breath before turning his back at me.

"I'll leave her to you." I was confused for a moment at his words as he walk away. But the moment I caught sight of the silhouettes in the corner of my eyes, I immediately realized what he meant.

I heard the approach of pit patting footsteps behind me and I quickly raised my guard, already having an idea of where this is going. And I have no choice but to put up a fight this time.
