Lydia woke up in an unfamiliar room, and she scanned the room quickly. Regretting it immediately as pain shot up and down her body with the slightest movement. Lydia groaned and her door opened slightly. Allison’s eye peeked in and Lydia closed her eyes tight. She wasn’t up for this.

“Hey Lydia,” Allison said quietly as she opened the door all the way. “How are you feeling?”

“I feel like crap.” Lydia said timidly. Allison pulled out a wet towel and as gently as possible started to clean Lydia’s wounds. Lydia winced and whimpered in pain, but she was just grateful Allison was there.  “Where’s Scott?” Lydia asked, hoping it would buy her time to make a really good excuse for why Aiden did this to her.

“He’s downstairs with the kids. Melony doesn’t want to talk to anybody so he thought playing would help her out.” Allison said as if it was just another day. Lydia stared at her friend with confusion.

“Aren’t you going to ask me about last night?” Lydia asked, getting nervous. Allison shrugged.

“I figured you would tell me when you were ready.” Allison said plainly. Lydia was shocked; Allison wasn’t going to pressure her, which was a surprise. “But I can’t say the same thing about Scott.” Allison added, making Lydia smile a little. After a good ten minutes of care and another ten to get dressed, Lydia limped downstairs with pain all over her body, where breakfast was waiting.

“Hello Lydia,” Scott said as he saw her appear. Scott took another bite of his pancakes as he saw Lydia struggle to sit down.

                “Hey,” was all Lydia said,

“So,” Scott began. Allison sat in the living room with the kids and Lydia just closed her eyes and sighed.

“Scott, I’m sorry. I didn’t know where else to go, I had nowhere else to go. I promise I will be out of your hair quickly, I just need Aiden to cool down for a while.” Lydia began but was cut off by Scott.

“You’re going back to Aiden? Are you crazy? No way, that’s out of the question.” Scott said. Lydia opened her mouth to speak but was cut off again.

“How long?” Scott asked. Lydia had no power in herself to fight back so she just went along with Scott.

“A couple months after we got married it began.” Lydia said, ashamed. Scott looked up at her in surprise.

“You have been married for almost two years.” Scott said in pure shock.

“I know.” Lydia said, not daring too look at Scott.

“Why didn’t you come to us?” Scott said angrily. Lydia looked up and saw his jaw was clenched.

“Because I didn’t want you guys to worry.” Lydia said. “It was never so bad to the point where I thought I couldn’t fix it. Plus, Melony loves him and I want her to have a father figure.” Lydia said desperate, wanting Scott to understand her.

“You think he’s a good father figure?” Scott boomed out. Lydia jumped. “If Aiden is capable of doing this to you, what says he won’t do it to Melony? Are you crazy?” Scott asked in frustration.

“Aiden has always been sweet to Melony, even drunk. He has never laid a hand on her and he always stops if she happens to come out her room! He’s a good father, that’s why I love him so damn much!” Lydia started to shout. “And if you can’t see that then you clearly haven’t seen him when Melony is around! Melony is the center of our worlds, especially his! So don’t say he could turn on her because he would rather die than hurt Melony.” Lydia shouted as she got up and stomped out the kitchen back to Allison’s room and swung it shut. Lydia’s body still ached with excruciating pain, but all Lydia could think about was how Scott was wrong, he had to be.
