Chapter Eighty

I don't know what Corey and Victor were able to find last night on the computers, but this morning, Nathan got a text saying they both rushed over to the Taylor household to speak with Owen at the crack of dawn. Hopefully, it was all good news.

I sit down on the couch, dressed in my usual jeans and T-shirt. Today I braided my hair and have it hanging over one shoulder. Nathan sits on the other end of the couch drinking some coffee Marc made while reading something on his phone. He and Gabriel stayed with me last night, both of them opting to sleep in my bed rather than the bed in the attic. I didn't mind. I actually love sleeping between these boys; they snuggle and they keep me warm.

"What are you reading?" I ask, picking up my sandals and sliding them onto my feet, one after the other.

"The same thing you are," he says, sipping his coffee.

I sit up. "What?"

Nathan smirks and puts his phone down, resting it on his thigh before turning to look at me. "Last night, you were pretty invested in what you were reading. I was curious. When you left your phone unlocked to check the stew, I had a peek at the title."

"You're reading Introductions?"

"Yeah," he grins. "I'll read the books that follow if you do. Maybe I should get Kota to read them with us. Start a book club."

"It's good," I tell him. "But it's not what I'm looking for."

"What are you looking for?" He tilts his head to the side curiously.

I turn my head, avoiding those serious blue eyes. "Something more...steamy, I guess." I clear my throat, willing myself to not blush. I hate my blush.

"A lot of similar recommendations came up when I searched in this one," Nathan says carefully. "I could...check them out?"

"Yeah sure," I whisper, standing up. "Let me know what you find." I quickly leave the family room, feeling the weight of Nathan's eyes on me as I go. I go into the kitchen, finding Axel and Marc making some breakfast. Scrambled eggs and bacon by the looks of it. "What did Corey and Victor find?"

"The location of the accounts," Axel says without missing a beat. He's wearing his glasses today, with a pair of grey shorts and a black vest. "They we're up all night. I had to convince them to get a few hours of sleep before going off to speak with Owen."

"They woke us up to tell us," Marc says. "They were literally buzzing."

"That was all the coffee they had consumed," Axel shoots back. His almond eyes focus on mine. "Hopefully, that caffeine gets them both through the day. Especially Victor."

"He's still going to come to school?" I ask, sitting down at the breakfast bar and watching the two boys...men...work. I pick up the camera that's nearby and turn it on. I aim it in Marc's direction: he's wearing a pale green T-shirt and jeans, his feet bare, hair still mused from his sleep. I'm pretty sure they both rolled out of bed and came straight over to do breakfast so I didn't have too. Everyone is coming here this morning before we head out for our day.

I press the shutter button and Marc looks up. I press it again, grinning when he grins at me. My heart leaps, that smile stealing my breath. I want to make him smile like that all the time, every single day.

"Yes," Axel answers. "With what they found last night, Hendricks and McCoy could be out of the school by the end of the week."

"What about the drugs?" I ask, looking over at the doorway when Nathan walks in followed by a sleepy Gabriel. We had left him in bed. Seems like he's finally rolled out of it. Marc is quick to make him a cup of coffee from the coffee machine.
