Chapter 10: Talent show

"Last time on Total Drama Island... The Killer Bass finally dodged their pathetic losing streak against The Screaming Gophers. There were bruises, tears, risky moves, and dangerous alliances. And in the end, it was Noah the know-it-all who didn't see it coming. This week, another challenge will send one more camper on a cruise to Loser-ville. Population: Four. Who will sink? And who will stay afloat? Find out right now on Total. Drama. Island!" Chris says to the camera. I hate watching him acting really happy just for the broadcasting. "Okay. This is so way beyond bad. I'm out of fake tanner already!" Lindsay said.  "Whoa, that's tragic, Lindsay."  I said sarcastically.  "Now I have to actually, like, suntan. In the sun! Do you realize how shriveled and wrinkly that can make your skin? Oh, you totally do." Lindsay told me. Behind me, I heard a very large horn going off. "All right, campers! Enough beauty sleep! Time to show us what you're made of!" Chris said through the loud speaker. "Are we gonna see a musical? I love musicals. Especially the ones with singing and dancing. Heh" Lindsay said obnoxiously.  "Lindsay, I 100% doubt that we are going to see a musical." I told her.  "Oh, okay." She said. I walked over to my bag and pulled out some clothes. I picked out my usual Gothic type of clothing. I slipped it on then fixed my hair. Oh, and in case you were wondering, we do get our clothes washed. Each week, Chef will go by each cabin and ask the campers for their dirty clothes. We would toss them into a basket witch would be taken to get washed. So...yeah. I walked outside to go to the Main Lodge. I was starving. Beth had told me that today we had muffins instead of slobby food. I was merely rushing to go eat. I got my food then Chris led the directions for me to where today's challenge. "Gwen! Saved you a seat." Trent said to me. "Thanks." I replied. My tone sounding angry. Cody was sitting in front. But not for long. He leaned back and fell down into the seat. I giggled. Chris walked over to the stage. "Welcome to our brand new deluxe state-of-the-art outdoor amphitheater!" He said. "Okay, this week's challenge is a summer camp favorite. A talent contest!" He continued. I wasn't a big talent person. I did not want to participate in the challenge today. "Yes! Awesome!" Owen yelled. "Each team has eight hours to pick their three most talented campers." Chris said.  8 hours! To pick 3 people!?! That's insane. Katie and Sadie were squealing like little girls. " These three will represent them in the show tonight. Sing, dance, juggle. Anything goes, as long as it's legal." Chris said. Directing his eyes to Duncan. I looked over to Duncan, smirking at how angry he was. He snapped his fingers and didn't say anything. "You'll be judged by our resident talent scout, former DJ, VJ, and rap legend, Grand Master Chef, who will show his approval via the Chef-o-Meter." Chris explained. "The team that loses will send one camper home tonight. Good luck." Chris walked off and left us to decide who we are going to pick. I, of course, backed off of the conversation. I really had no talents besides drawing and writing. The Gophers moved over to where our cabin was standing. That is where we began to discuss who was going to be in the show. Heather approached our team. "Okay. I'm the team captain, so here's how it's going to work." She said. "Wait. Who said you were team captain?" I asked her. "She did, just now." Lindsay said. "Lindsay, Beth, and I took a vote and I won." Heather said. I thought of something I said a while back. Before I got on the show. " Threatening them to vote for you isn't exactly democratic." I told the small team featuring Heather, Lindsay, and Beth. I moved over onto the patio of the cabin. Trent walked out of the boys side of the cabin. "Hey. Snagged you an extra muffin." He said, offering me the blueberry muffin that was being held in his hands. "Trent. You're cool with me leading this project, aren't you?" Heather asked Trent. "Right on, go for it." He said. "Good. Beth, Lindsay, and I will be the judges." Heather told our team. "Whatever." I said. I walked inside and dug through my bad, looking for my diary. As soon as I found is, I walked back outside and  found a tree. Far away enough for my team to not see me. I sat down and began writing. After about an hour, I walked back to see what my team was up too. I saw that there was a line of people that were going to audition for the talent show. I took a seat on the patio and watched. Trent sat next to me and asked "Are you gonna audition?" "Doubtful. You should be in this though. I heard you the other night by the dock. You're really good." I forgot to tell you that Trent was playing his guitar by the dock. He could also sing too. I looked over to my right, passed Trent and saw Owen was next to audition. He was carrying a litter bottle of soda. Owen opened the bottle and chugged it. He took a deep breath and burped the alphabet "A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, and Zed!" He sang.  We cheered at the way he said it so fluently.  "That was excellent, man." Trent said. Heather scoffed and said "Well, you're not going to do that in the contest, that's disgusting." "You know how hard it is to burp the entire alphabet in one go?" Trent added. "I can also toot Beethoven's 5th!" Owen said to us. "No, no, no!" Beth started to say to Owen, telling him to stop. " No, Owen..." Lindsay said. I wanted to just leave the island at this point. I got up and began walking away to go write in my journal. "Where are you going?" Heather asked me. "Anywhere that's not here." I replied. "Man, that is weak." I heard Chris say. I ignored him then walked away from my team to find a quiet place. I didn't want to have anything to do with today's challenge. I sat down and began drawing and writing like it was the end of the world. I was just expressing my self through pictures and words. It's not that special. "Hey" A voice said behind me. "I like your drawings." They said. I looked behind me to see Trent holding the muffin that I had left and the patio of the cabin. "You should try out for the talent show. I mean- drawing is a talent, right?" He said. "I guess" I told him. He sat down next to me and handed me the muffin. We sat in silence for a while until he broke it. "Heather is going next to audition." "Isn't she a judge?" I asked. "Yeah, but she insisted on auditioning." Trent told me. "She's going to be doing a ballet dance." He told me. "Okay, I have to see this." I said already jumping up and walking to see Heather dance. Trent was behind me. I felt his eyes staring me down. Like a lion ready to catch it prey. I was near the cabins and I heard rock music and soft piano music, at the same time. It was like being  in Hot Topic and both sides of the store are different styles. I walked towards the ballet music and saw Heather dancing to it. Once Heather finished dancing, she said "Thank you. Ahem." "Oh, I vote for Heather to be in the contest!" Lindsay said. "I second that!" Beth added. I rolled my eyes. "Guys, that's so sweet! Okay, so I guess I'm in. Why doesn't everyone take five?" Heather says to the team. I finally break away from the auditions and look towards Trent. I found that he was already staring at me. I quickly looked down because I knew that I was blushing. Trent snickered at this remark I had made. "Just like the first day we got here huh?" He asked. "What do you mean?" I asked him. "You were so awkward and shy on the first day." "I was not!" I said to him. A little while later we all got back to continue the auditions. Izzy did a dance that nobody liked. Beth was next. She walked out with two baton twirlers that were lit of fire. " Are you sure this is safe?" Heather asked. "It's okay, I've been practicing." Beth said. She began spinning the batons around. She threw one up in the air but didn't catch it. It landed in a bush. " Run!" Owen yelled. "I kinda missed the catching class." Beth had said to the team.  "Uh, guys... the bush is on fire." Trent told us. Justin had jumped out of the bathroom stall with a fire extinguisher in hand. He used the extinguisher to burn out the flame so it was gone. After the fire was gone, Leshawna walked over and handed Justin some water. He took it and ripped his shirt off for no reason. He lifted his hand a squirted the water into his mouth. There was a single droplet that had escaped. It fell down onto his skin and it sizzled once it had touched the burning surface. Everybody on my team (besides me and Trent) were leaning over to hear what he wad to say. "Okay. So I think it's me, Trent and... Justin. Any objections?" Heather said to our team. Everybody shook their head no. I sighed and went to go sit down on a tree stump and write in my journal. I heard small footsteps behind me. "What you got there, a journal?" A small voice said. "Beat it." I told the anonymous person. "Oh, I get it. Yeah, it's private, huh? I'm down with that, yeah. It's cool, brah." The pipsqueak said. At this point, I knew it was Cody. He leaned over to see what I was writing. "What part of beat it don't you understand?" I said. He began sniffing in a really weird way. "What are you, some kind of freak?" I asked. "Y-you just... smell... really... pretty." He said in a shy voice. "It's just... soap." I replied. I walked off to where the cabins were. I wanted to be anywhere else than with Cody. Trent was playing his guitar and as soon as he saw me he looked up with astonishment. I walked to where I was near Trent and I looked down and the ditch that was made. "I won't even ask." I said to nobody. I walked to the girls side of the cabin. "Look! The first hook up of the season." Heather shouted to me and Cody. "Oh yeah. We're going at it big time. I need a swim just to cool off." I said sarcastically. I slammed the door shut so I could get changed. I quickly put on my bathing suit and  slammed the door open, crushing Cody. I walked out with a towel on my shoulder. "Gwen, wait up! I'll come with you." Trent said to me. "Sure. I mean... whatever." I said, catching my self from being too nice. I walked over to the dock and slipped my feet into the cold water. I heard a loud crash coming from the Amphitheater. It was from the other team, thankfully. Trent sat down beside me and we started talking. I wasn't going to let my feelings for a guy get in the way of the challenge. We talked for a while. "Sometimes, I just need to get away from everyone here, you know? I mean, it's like they're all driving me crazy. Well, almost all of them." I said blushing. Behind me, I heard a rumbling sound. "Cannonball!" Owen yelled jumping in the water. There was a big splash covering me with water until I was soaked. I grunted and stood up while saying "Ugh! I hate this place!" "Nice going, guys." Trent said behind me. I was walking back to the cabins to get my clothes and change. "Hey, Gwen. Gwen! It's you!" Lindsay said loudly. "Hi! What are you doing here, outside the cabin, Gwen?" She asked me, now being obnoxiously loud. "Trying to get into the cabin?" I answered as a question. "Ohh, you're trying to get into the cabin! That's very interesting!" Lindsay practically yelled. I walked towards the door and she stopped me saying "Wait. Stay here We can... get tans together. And you could totally use one." "Are you gonna move? Or do I have to throw you out of my way?" "You can try, but I have martial arts training. Okay, you can go in..."  I walked into the cabin and saw Heather standing there, looking very suspicious. "Look, Gwen's back!" Lindsay said behind me. I walked over too her, looking mad. "Hey, Gwen. Did you have a good swim?" Heather asked me. "What is going on in here?" I asked her. She yawned before saying "Nothing, just resting before the big show. Are you always so paranoid?" "Yeah. Really." Lindsay added. I just grabbed my clothes and left to go change. I heard guitar music in the distance and followed the sound. I heard Trent singing to it. He was singing "I love you" By Billie Eilish. I have known this song for years. I memorized the lyrics to it. I walked towards the sound, making sure that I was hidden. I wanted to make Trent know that I can sing. "It's not true." He sang. "Tell me I've been lied to." "Crying isn't like you. Oooh." He voice was so soothing. On the second part I decided to join in. "What the hell did I do." I sang with him. "Never been the type to, let someone see right threw. Oooh." We sang. On the chorus, I slowly began to reveal myself from hiding. "Maybe won't you take it back." We sang as I peeled back from the shadows. "Say you were try'n to make me laugh." One step closer then I was revealed. "And nothing has to change today. You didn't mean to say I love you..." We sang as there and then I was revealed. "I Love you"  He looked shocked to hear me sing. He stopped and told me "Your voice is beautiful." "Thank you." I replied. I walked off with my clothes to go change. I knew I made Trent proud. It was getting dark. I had to hurry before the show starts. I quickly got changed and walked out of the bathrooms. Duncan was waiting outside for me. "Shouldn't you be with your team?" I asked. "Shouldn't you be with your's?" He replied. "Whatever" I said walking past him. He grabbed my wrist and pulled me in, close it him. "I'm walking you down there." He said. "I don't need your help. I can walk completely fine." I said daringly. " OK then sweetheart." He said. "What did I tell you about the nicknames?" "Oh, sorry I can't remember." He told me smirking. I just walked away. I'm not making anymore enemies than I have now. I walked over to the amphitheater and took a seat. "It's the TDI Talent Extravaganza!" Chris said on stage. "Welcome to the very first Camp Wawanakwa... Talent Contest. Where six campers will showcase their mad skills and desperately try not to humiliate themselves. First up for the Screaming Gophers... is Justin!" My team started cheering and clapping for Justin. "Do it, dude! Yeah! Woo-hoo!" Owen chanted. "Woo-hoo! Oh, Justin! Oh! Yeah!" Lindsay said. Justin stood on stage, acting like his model self and started posing. There was a rope behind him and when he pulled the rope water came crashing down on him. He leaned forward and whipped his hair with him. After Justin was done, we clapped appropriately and Chris gave us the score. "Okay, I don't know what that was... but daaang, you got some moves, dude." He said We had gotten 7 points from Chef. Better than nothing. "Woo-hoo!" Lindsay and Izzy cheered. "First up for the Killer Bass... make some noise for the big guy! DJ!" Chris said to us. The Bass began cheering for D.J. He's a big guy but who knows what he will do. D.J Jumped out from back stage with a ribbon in hand. He bang spinning and twirling, until he got caught by the ribbon and fell over. The Killer Bass "oohed" at this. "Dainty and yet masculine. Let's see what Grand Master Chef thinks." Chris said. The Bass had managed to get 2 points. "Not much. So, with two down and four acts to go, it's the Screaming Gophers... screaming ahead. Next on deck... Trent. Take it away, my bro." I leaned in, resting my head on my hands and listened to Trent sing. "This one goes out to someone special here at camp." Trent said directly to me. He began playing the guitar.
