Maksean

Dad really enjoyed dropping us off, and he said he'd get Cornelius where he needed to go for us. We arrived at the venue our school's prom is located about twenty minutes after the dance started. Poor Cornelius must be tired.

And at the entrance, we were given our name card and asked to put our masquerade mask on. I had almost forgotten about the masquerade party of the dance. The idea was to walk in with your mask and only take it off when you were announced to everyone. You didn't have to participate, but it was a fun gesture.

I looked around for my side bag Adrian handed me earlier in the day but realized I didn't have it. My mask was inside. She and Sofia had gone shopping together to gossip about Asher and I and came across where they were selling them. They went and bought the four of us our masks to match our dresses. And now I have lost my own. My phone was in there too. Oh no.

"Maksie?" Asher's deep voice brushed over my right ear as he whispered. "Looking for something?"

I turned to find him holding my side bag with a smirk. "Adrian knew you'd forget, so he handed it to me. Does it match my suit? I want to make sure I look good when they announce my name."

I laughed, but reached out to grab my bag. "Yes, but I think it can better suit you if I hold on to it." I reached in and pulled out the two matching masks. Since the masks were meant to match my dress, both were golden with green trim with the gold fading into a matching green around the eyes. The difference between our masks was the shape. The top of Asher's came to a point almost like a crown while mine dented downwards.

Luka and Daniela's masks were similar to ours but purple and silver to match their colors.

We all walked in holding our mask to our faces knowing they would come right off. We were led down a hallway before opening a door. Music was blasting from a dj in the corner. Light and streamers were everywhere. Lots of Mardi Gras beads hanging on things. There were already a large number of people on the dance floor. A large man stood at the door with a button he pressed when he saw us walk in. With his hand held up, he stopped us.

The music died down just as Luka handed his name card along with Dani's to the man. When the music was barely audible, and everyone's attention shifted to the gold carpet walkway Luka and Dani were guided towards.

"Senior Luka Joseph Tinder and his date, junior Daniela Ella Charles." The man announced as Luka guided Dani down the carpet walkway towards the dance floor. Claps were heard all throughout the room.

Asher's hand was placed on my back, almost startling me, as he walked to where our friends stood only moments ago. The spotlight was back to us as Dani and Luka joined the body of people on the dance floor waiting to hear our dance. I look at Asher to find him already smiling down at me.

"Junior Asher Beau Smith and his date junior Maksean Ignis Swift." I smiled brightly as I let my hand holding my mask up fall just as Asher did the same. With Asher's hand on my back we waltzed over towards our friends.

"Beau?" Dani snorted.

"Okay miss Daniela Ella," Asher fired back, earning more snorts from our friend. This was going to be a great night.

We all danced and drank punch. Daniela and I tried to request a Kpop song, but it got shut down, so the boys went and tried for us. They failed as well, but the thought counted for something. When Dani and I ran off to dance together, the boys followed suit. Copying us and looking ridiculous. But that made the night even better. Time flew and the music died down as the principal walked on stage to announce the prom court.

"Hello students, I hope you're all having a good time?" She cheered loudly, earning so hoots and whistles. "Alright, I'm going to start by announcing this year's junior prom court. When I call your name please make your way to the stage. I will be calling them out boy then girl, so gentlemen please assist the lady behind you up the stairs if she needs it."
