Maksean
I looked out of the truck window to see the once green plain field that was now brown meaning that autumn has fallen. As I listen to the music that is playing from my headphones, I watch the scenery change since we ride into town.
"Maksie!" I felt my dad's hand rub my left shoulder. I pull my earbud out to hear him.
"Sir?" I ask only to not get a response but a warm smile. After a while when I'm about to put the earbud back, my dad speaks.
"This'll be good for us and it's not like you guys are changing schools. Y'alls friends will be there." He paused to look over at me. " Daniela will be there and Kylie and Bray. Maks you'll still be on the drumline. Emma will still be on the soccer team. Trey will still...." he stopped to think for a bit. He shifted a bit to look at my little brother.
"What do you do again?" My dad asked him. Only to have Emma burst into laughter along with Trey, until he realized that dad just burned him.
"Hey!" Trey yelled playfully.I smile at the scene that plays before me. I mean he's right I'm still going to DHS I'll still have my three weirdos for best friends, I'll still be on the same drum line with the same goofy boys. So why do I feel like something bad is about to happen?
"Hey, Maks? Ya good?" My new stepmom, Adrian, asked.
I throw her a smile as I remember she's here with my dad now so I can think like a normal teen. I won't have to worry about my dad throwing his back out, or Emma and Trey arguing over the dumbest things, or about dad having no one to go to the V.A. with him. Yeah things will be fine, this is a good change. I try to convince myself.
After a while the truck comes to a stop and all I hear are four different people saying 'we're here'. I get out and as I stretch I see a boy through the window of the house next door, but before I could get a good look at him, he was gone. That's weird.
