Reader's POV:

"Bye mum, I'm leaving!" You called as you bolted down the stairs quicker than the speed of lightning.

"Don't forget, home no later than 5:30." Your mum responded and you mumbled your confirmation before grabbing your phone that your dad had left for you on the kitchen table.

You had set off half an hour earlier than usual in hopes of catching Billie before school started. It was a rather nice day despite it being somewhat chilly, so you walked the few blocks to school, switching on your phone in the process, eager to message Billie and apologise for not being able to respond to her message the previous night. A warm smile crept onto your face when you read the text from the blonde. "I love you." It was so simple but held so much meaning.

"I love you so much Billie." You typed out before adding; "Sorry I didn't message you back last night, my parents confiscated my phone. I'll explain when I see you. I love you."

You arrived at school just after 8:30am. The building was pretty vacant, occupying only a handful of teachers and students, which would hopefully give you and Billie some uninterrupted time together before your first class began. You made your way straight down the hall towards Billie's classroom, gradually picking up your pace as the excitement of seeing your girlfriend again quickly increased.

Sure enough, the blonde beauty was in her classroom, and you patiently waited outside when you noticed she was on the phone. She looked rather tense and agitated and you pitied whoever was on the other end of that call when her voice rose slightly, followed closely by a few expletives before she hung up, slamming her phone down on the desk.

Knocking lightly on the door, you entered. "Everything ok?" You asked hesitantly as Billie's gaze met yours. Her dark eyes glazed over, she barely looked like she was holding it together which only heightened the worry you were already feeling, and up on closer inspection you noticed she had a bruise on the side of her face and a tiny cut on her lip.

"What the hell happened?" You asked, examining her face.

"My husband found out I'm having an affair." Was all she said.

"What? How? Did he do this?" So many questions were swirling around your mind making it hard for you to concentrate on just one thing.

"I told him.. but he also had a tracking device installed on my phone so he knew where I was last weekend. I didn't tell him who I was with though.."

"Did he do that?" You interrupted, voice a little shaky as you gestured to the bruise and cut on her face, which she'd obviously tried to cover with makeup. From afar you wouldn't be able to tell, but up close you definitely could. Anger quickly surfaced as you pictured the particular scenario between Billie and her husband. Him getting angry and taking his frustration out on her, you couldn't help but feel partly responsible.

"It's nothing. It looks worse than it is." She mumbled quickly averting her gaze as she ran her fingertips lightly over the bruise.

"Billie.." you coaxed, gently grasping hold of her hand. "He did that didn't he? He hit you?" You asked again trying to keep your anger from toppling over the surface.

A few moments of silence passed by before she responded, offering a slight nod of her head. "It's not the first time." She mumbled, her gaze lowered.
