Reader's POV:

Billie managed to get you home 5 minutes before your curfew. Although to be honest you weren't really bothered if you were late because there were more pivotal issues to worry about, like leaving your girlfriend alone in a house that her abusive and possibly dangerous husband had access too.

As you entered your house, you tried to be as quiet as possible in order to avoid your mother, your dad was at work so you didn't need to worry about him. Just as you were climbing the stairs your mother appeared out of nowhere. "How was school?" She asked.

"Fine." You briefly responded, keeping your back to her so she wouldn't ask questions about what happened to your face.

"Aren't you forgetting something..?" She asked as you tried to make a break for it. You paused on the stairs knowing exactly what she was referring to.

"My phone got confiscated at school, I don't get it back until Friday." You didn't need to see your mothers face to know she probably didn't believe a word that came out of your mouth. "You can ring Miss Howard tomorrow and ask her if you don't believe me." You turned to face her, quickly growing irritated. Your phone wasn't the topic of conversation anymore as she quickly noticed the red mark underneath your face.

"What the hell happened?" She asked, pulling you down the stairs so she could look at it under the light, finger prodding and poking your injured area.

"Mum I'm fine." You groaned batting her hands away. "Accidentally walked into a door at school, it looks worse than it is."

Your mum narrowed her eyes at you as though trying to detect whether you were lying or not but she seemed to buy it. "Sit down I'll make you something to eat."

You relented and took a seat at the dining table. You hated lying to your parents; your mother especially, so you could at least let her make you something to eat, you owed her that much. "I'll just have a sandwich, not really that hungry."

You and Billie had been texting each other all evening, and she had reassured your worrying mind over and over that everything would be ok, but the more she said it the more your worry increased because it sounded as though she was trying to convince herself more than you.

You were starting to get a little drowsy and when you looked at the clock you saw it was almost 10:00pm. Your mum had gone to bed an hour ago so she was probably fast asleep by now, your dad was at work until 8:00am, and Billie only lived about 20 minutes away. The thought had crossed your mind once or twice but you had immediately brushed it off, but before you could even comprehend your actions you were climbing out of bed, pulling on the leggings that Billie had leant you, already wearing her hoodie having put it straight back on after you'd taken a shower and slipping on some shoes you quietly crept out of your room making sure to avoid the one creaky floorboard by your door. You just about managed to creep downstairs and out of the house without making too much noise, phase one of your plan was complete, you just needed to be home before your mum woke up.

Half an hour later you made it to Billie's having ran half the way because you couldn't shake the feeling you were being watched. But it was late and dark so those thoughts were bound to cross your mind. Even so, you ended up slipping into a Chinese food place which prompted you to get some food because you were quite hungry now and you doubted Billie had eaten anything.
