PAGE 11: Pathetic

MARIA ADA'S POV

I am currently in one of my parent's restaurants to supervise. The moment I graduated, I realized the need to learn things first before going into the business world without the help of my parents. My attention focuses on the blue sapphire wreath ring on my index finger. After our camp, Alexios gave me this ring, he said, I should consider this as a promise ring.

"How romantic." I said to myself. I came back from the present when someone knocked on the door of my office. As soon as my parents knew my plans on working in one of their restaurants, they immediately made me an office room. "Come in." I said. The image of my mother appeared as soon as the door went open. I stand up and walk closer to her.

"What are you doing here, Mom?" I inquired after I kissed her cheek. "I just want to see if my baby girl is doing well here."

"Mom, I told you, I'm not a baby anymore." I laughed. "Do you mind if we go to another place, Mom? I'm craving lava chocolate cake again." My mother didn't hesitate and we went to a pastry shop. I ordered lava chocolate cake and a cup of hot chocolate, while my mother just ordered Americano. We walk to the vacant table and take our seats. "So, who gave you that ring? Is that an engagement ring?" My mother suddenly asked.

"No, it's just a promise ring." I answered. She looks like she still has something to say.

"Is the guy who gave that to you the baby's father?" She asked again. Now I looked at her eyes and made contact. "Yes, Mom." I smiled as I replied.

"Does he know you're pregnant?" I lowered my head and sighed. I was about to answer when she held my hand. I stared at my mother, who showed me her assuring smile. "You don't have to rush yourself, tell him when you are ready." I smiled, my eyes looking at the window when I noticed a familiar face. Is that Alexios? I watch him walking on the street with a woman, he's with Tatiana. I can't be wrong, he is really with Tatiana. Why on earth is he with her? No, never mind. I trust him. I tried to be composed, but I can't let my mother notice something. I just focused on myself when our order arrived.

After my short bonding with Mom, I immediately went home. Mother and I go separate ways as she is still going back to work. Lying on the bed, I quickly got up when my phone started vibrating. "Hello." I greeted with a lazy tone.

"Agápi, are you free tonight? Can we have dinner together?" He said on the other line. I am exhausted, I look at my alarm clock. It's four in the afternoon. I went back to the call. "Yes, I'm free." I answered.

"Okay, I'll pick you up later. See you!" He replied before he ended the call.

At exactly six, Alexios arrived. I just wear a simple chic outfit with a long camel coat. I stepped out of the house and swiftly went inside Alexios' car. The whole ride was smooth, without us having a conversation. I don't have the mood to talk about anything right now.

When we arrived at the restaurant, we immediately took our orders. Observing the surroundings, I looked at the guy sitting in front of me when he cleared his throat. He held my right hand and asked. "Are you alright, Ada? You look pale." I let go of his hand and just nod. The moment I let go, he reacted weirdly and asked me again.

"Is there something wrong, Agápi?" Now I stared at his handsome face and smiled. "Can I ask something, Alexios?" I asked him. He took a sip of his wine while waiting for my question.

"Who's with you this afternoon?" I asked without any hesitation. He looked intently at me. "Tatiana." He answered. "Can I ask what's the purpose of your meeting with her?"

"Are you acting as a jealous girlfriend right now, Agápi? How cute. I was with her because she asked me to accompany her for a bit. Don't worry, I didn't cheat on you, okay? I still consider her as a friend even when we broke up." He said. Friend? How pathetic.

"I understand." As soon as I said that, I swiftly stood and walked out. I heard him calling my name, but I didn't bother to turn around. He has the audacity to say that, without even considering what I would feel seeing him with her. It's his ex-girlfriend we're talking about here!

"Ada, please. Let me explain it further. I don't think you understand." I suddenly stopped when he grabbed my hand. I smirked while letting go of his grip. "I really do understand, Alexios. You think I am dumb enough not to understand that your ex-girlfriend is in need of your presence? I do understand. So let me go." As soon as I let go of the grip, I immediately took a cab.
