The splash of the puddles underneath me soak my shoes as I push off on the ground, bringing my foot back to balance on the board only to push off the asphalt once more desperate to get more speed. Desperate to get away from the one chasing behind me.

Seeing the school come into view gives me hope as I give one final shove, trusting the board to carry me the rest of the way.

Gliding through the gates with ease and a hidden smile of victory on my face. The curses of the girl behind me fill me with satisfaction as I hop off the board and turn to face her.

"That just isn't fair Sally Face." She says, sliding the helmet off of her head and shaking her hair free of it's trapped state. Her smiling face surrounded by a shield of brown threads.

I can't wear a helmet, my prosthetic gets in the way. I usually wear other safety gear but I didn't today, Ash called me reckless and stupid for it and I guess she's right. I've just been finding it difficult to care.

"Oh yeah?" I ask, grabbing my skateboard and following her into the building. Suddenly we're enclosed by an ocean of distant echoing screams and running teenagers. "How so?"

"You've been skating practically since you were born, there's no way I can compete with that." She tugs on my sleeve pulling me out of the current of kids and over toward our lockers.

"Ash I've only been skating for two years," I shake my head with a hidden smile on my face, looking out into the sea of students. "And you'll never beat me if you keep up that attitu..."

Everything stops.

Travis fucking Phelps.

He seems to be searching the crowd, for who I know, me. Surely, he's making his next move to torment me for that dreaded call home he must've received last night. However, when our eyes lock his expression softens. He walks toward me.

I think Ash is talking but I can't make out a thing she's saying. I feel her tug on my arm and that's when I realize I've started walking.

I only pull myself out of her grip and walk faster, each hard step on the linoleum floor sends shocks up my spine.

Maybe if he could see my face he could've read my expression, my pure rage. But he can't, and by the time he notices it, it's too late for him.

"Hey Sal, I wanted to ta-"

** depictions of violence, mentions of blood!!**

Have you ever punched someone in the face? It feels amazing. You get this rush of adrenaline and it's like you haven't noticed what you've done until you did it. The adrenaline rush hides the pain in your hand, and it also makes you lose all sense of reason.

I think that lack of reason is why I punched him a second time, and why I knocked him onto the ground, and why I pinned him there.
