*Since yesterday was jily's death day (not in this world because we don't accept that over here lol), and today's Val's birthday, I hope you love this chapter as much as I do. I know this update has been long-awaited, so wait no further. Happy reading!

June 27, 1993

Sirius had pulled Remus and Val from bed the next morning, bothering them by prattling on about his detailed schedule for the next few days of their trip. He wanted to see all New York had to offer before they were to leave, and did not want to waste a single second lying in their hotel room when they could be enjoying the sites and wonders awaiting them.

He rushed them to breakfast as soon as they had pulled on a fresh change of clothes, rubbing their eyes and holding back yawns as their warm plates of food appeared.

"Eat up!" He pushed the glass of orange juice towards Val, poking the eggs on her plate. "You'll need a full stomach for our walk today!"

"You haven't told us where we're going," she sipped, making a sour face when the pulp gathered on her taste buds.

Sirius exhaled a heavy sigh. "It's a surprise, which is why we need to get moving!"

She had to admit that while her father had never been that much of a morning person, she did enjoy his enthusiasm, and found his energy to be contagious as his knee bobbled underneath the table, only to be steadied by a touch of Remus' hand.

"You're not wearing proper walking shoes." All three of them examined Sirius' footwear, realizing he was wearing the same leather pointed boots he had been wearing the night before.

"I'll be fine," Sirius waved his worry away. "They're comfortable, and they look good!"

He wouldn't be saying that in the sweltering heat hours later, the swarm of tourists and busybodies clustering under various signs and entertainment venues. He had decided to take them to Times Square, where the colorful electric displays and innovative architecture had captured his eyes as soon as he stepped foot into the crowded area, tugging Val's arm as he led them farther into the bustle of the city.

An intimate group of men was playing jazz tunes on the corner of the street where people had gathered to watch, fishing money from their wallets and depositing the cash into the guitar case propped open with a sign that read: "All tips appreciated."

Sirius began to pat his pants for his wallet, and Remus put his hand back to his side. "You haven't heard them play yet. They're on a break."

He pointed to where the men had seated themselves, sipping water and talking casually as they counted their pay.

"It's faith, Rem," Sirius twiddled the twenty dollars in front of him. "I know talent when I see it."

Apparently, they were good it seemed, as more and more people began to touch shoulders to get a better view of the music group, starting their afternoon business with an upbeat tune. People began to grab their partners' hands and twirl, showing off their best choreography.

Sirius began to spin Val, swaying his hips side to side in synchronization with the beat of the trumpet behind him. "I don't dance!" Val objected, feeling meek as he took both of her hands and began to show her the steps to a song he had learned some time ago.

"Well, you do now, dear!" He triumphed, pulling Remus into the mix as they moved in a circle, awkward and bumpy as they went with the flow of the music.

The song came to an end and the horde of people clapped, whistling and cheering for another round of tunes. They managed to weed their way through the herd before another song began, stopping to see where they wanted to head next.
