Tessa POV
(Unedited)
I sat on the bed with my legs crossed in the pretzel position whilst reading my Vampire diaries book. My eyes squinted at the page as I chewed on my bottom lip. Gosh Stefan and Damon are so hot! I couldn't help but think as I turned the page to continue reading.
My eyes snapped away from the book when I heard the bathroom door open. My light brown eyes met Joey's bluish-greenish ones. An awkward silence seemed to engulf us. We haven't spoken since our fight from last night and neither of us even seemed to apologize for it, yet alone acknowledge it.
Joey gave a nod in lieu of a verbal 'hello'
I replied with a nod before trying to focus on the book again. In the corner of my eyes I noticed Joey make his way to the kitchen. I found myself staring at the kitchen for several moments. When I realized this, I shook my head and gained focus on the book again. In the background, I heard Joey pour cereal into a bowl.
I squinted my eyes more trying to concentrate on the chapter but there was no use, I didn't even have a clue what I was reading. My eyes were scanning the page but yet my brain was too distracted to even register the words.
I was too focused on what Joey was doing when I heard ruffling in the mini kitchen. I contemplated whether I should or not go to him. Should I apologize? Shouldn't I? Should I just leave it?
Without even thinking, I shut my book and placed it on the nightstand. I walked to the kitchen and found Joey making himself a bowl of cereal.
"Hey" I said softly as I slid onto the stool across from Joey. He reached for a spoon and closed the drawer.
"Hey" He mimicked and brought some cereal to his lips. Silence fell upon us once again, which made it very uncomfortable. Joey's eyes just stared at the cereal each time he scooped more Captain crunch. I just observed him whilst he did this. I couldn't muster up the courage to say anything, instead I just sat there fidgeting with the hem of my shirt.
I could feel a gaze on me, so I looked up and saw Joey's face was scrunched up, he looked deep in thought as if he was contemplating something. He opened his mouth to say something - I waited getting a tiny bit excited that finally this conversation was getting somewhere- but instead he closed his mouth again, making me slouch in disappointment.
"Look Joey," I blurted the same time Joey said "Look Tessa,"
Both our eyes widened in shock. "You go first" We said in unison again. A smile crept on both our faces.
"Okay, I'll go first" Joey's smile began to fade. He took in a deep breath before he began. "Look, I didn't mean what I said last night"
Wait a minute...was the Joey Henderson about to apologize to me? He never ever says it, his pride is way too high for that. So even if he just implies that he is sorry, it is good enough for me.
"Sometimes I do things I don't mean, alright?" He slid across his forehead to wipe the wet hair that had stuck just above his eyes. He looked so genuine like he really was sorry but he just couldn't say it.
Let's be honest, Joey's apology sucked. But since he hardly ever admits he is wrong, I was fine with it. More than fine actually.
I nodded and whispered: "Okay"
Joey's face suddenly changed. He was no longer looking apologetic; he looked irritated as if my answer set a ticking time bomb off. (Joey being the time bomb).
"Okay? OKAY?" He spat and slammed his cereal bowl onto the counter. I felt myself jump when he did this.
"I took the courage to attempt to apologize but all you say is OKAY?!"
