What normal person wakes up at 8:30 on a Sunday morning? Me. Well, I'm not exactly normal so that doesn't really count. And it's not like I woke up all bright and early on my own but when your mother is in the kitchen clashing, and banging pots together, it's sort of difficult to stay asleep.

I crawled out of bed and started down the small hallway that leads straight into our narrow kitchen. Our apartment is really small, but if you were eighteen and your mother didn't give up a cent to pay for rent your apartment would be small too.

"What are you doing?" I asked, emphasizing the 'what' and putting extra annoyance in my voice as I sat down on a stool. Without looking at me, my mom stood up from the floor and closed the cabinet she was rummaging through. She looks so pathetic as she stands like a post still in her dress from the bar last night.

"Making breakfast." She mumbles towards the floor and I can't stand to look at her anymore so I get up and make my way to my sisters room.

"Mel, open up." I say, not caring it's still early. If i'm up she has to be up with me. The door infront of me swings open and my sister, who looks a lot like a stray cat, steps out, still half asleep. I laugh at her appearance and take her arm and pull her into my room.

"We have to check together." I say, offering her a smile that she harshly doesn't except. I open my laptop and my heart leaps in my chest when I see I have an email.

"Mel!" I shout and slap her arm. "Look!" I use my finger and point to the little envelope icon that is on my cluttered screen. Her eyes widen and your jaw drops.

"Do you think-" She says but I guess she's to speechless to speak.

"I dunno, let's check." I say and move my mouse so that the small black arrow his hovering just above the email. A shove by my little sister forces me to click on it and I can't believe my eyes when it opens.

I look back at my little sister who is just as surprised as I am.

"I'm sorry, babe, I thought for sure we won."

But that's all I could get out before she ran out of my room, teary eyed and broken hearted.

I pulled on my Jean vest and rechecked my makeup one last time before heading over to my sisters room and dragged her out to come shopping with me. It had been three hours and she was still really disappointed and truthfully, so I was I. So I thought some shopping would cheer us up. That's pretty much the only good thing about living in California, there's always good places to just blow your money on unnecessary items.

"You look pretty." Mel says with a small smile on her face. I smile back and thank her before I compliment her outfit as well.

"Now let's go."

We walk past our mom who's sitting at the kitchen table, going through an old pastry cook book and head straight out the door without either of us saying goodbye.

You may think it's rude but you don't know half of the shit she's put both of us through. I'm practically Mel's mom and I'm only 18 years old. Its tough sometimes. I've given up everything to make sure Mel is supported. And by everything, I mean college.

"Where are we going?" Mel asks, breaking my thoughts up as we both get settled and buckled in the car.

"The mall." I say, and start my car.

We get out of the car at the mall and I notice there's a big crowd outside, but I don't think anything of it.

"They must be having a big sale or something." I tell Mel. "Lets go through the back, i'm sure Conner will let us through." Conner has been my best friend since 6th grade and he basically runs the mall since his dad owns it.

Mel and I struggle through the screaming crowd and go around the back and into a large, heavy door.

"Why are they screaming?" Mel asks and I shrug.

"I dunno."

The two of us make our way towards some stores and I realize there's nobody in the mall but us. Mel spots the face of Conner and shouts his name. He rushes over to us almost in a panic...

"What are you doing in here?!" He questions and I hold up my purse and pat it twice.

"Uh, shopping?"

Mel and I exchange looks and glance back at Conner.

"What's going on?" My little sister and I ask together but we both fall speechless when a very familiar figure walks infront of the large glass entrance doors and the crowd starts to chant one name.

Justin.
