The bell on the door rings. A few heads turn towards the door. I didn’t turn to see as I was filling a couple of customers cups of coffee.
Dawn walks in, “Ilona.”
I turn and I walk to her and hug her, “Hey Dawn.”
Dawn says, “I just got back.”
“Welcome home. Please take a seat and order whatever you want it is on the house.” I tell her as I walk to get her drink.
Dawn asks me, “Are you sure Ilona.”
I tell her as I set the glass down, “Yes I am sure Dawn.”
Dawn smiles and says, “It hasn’t change.”
Dawn tells me, “Goodness I bet the boys are tall.”
I laugh and tell her, “They are almost sixteen.”
Dawn says, “Mercy I remember than they were little. They probably won’t remember me.”
“They do remember you.” I tell her, “They will be happy to see you.”
Dawn tells me, “I am just glad to be home.”
I ask her, “Hey are you doing, okay?”
Dawn says, “I am doing okay. It is good to be home.”
I ask her, “What can I get you today, Dawn?”
“Are you sure it really is, okay?” She asks me.
“I am very sure it is okay. Come on you risk your life fighting the least I can do is get you some food and whatever else you would like.” I tell her softly.
She signs and says, “Okay you win.”
I smile and ask her, “Would you like some water to go with your coffee?”
She tells me, “I think I was what I normally get.”
I tell her, “Coming up in a bit.”
I walk to the window. Joc nods knowing what to make her. He is making it now. I am checking on other customers.
I release a breathing seeing Tressa’s van go by to the house. I know the boys will keep Clairie safe at the house.
Joc is done with Dawn’s food. I walk to the window. I grab the plate. I walk to the table. I refill Dawn’s cup of coffee.
Dawn says, “Thank you Ilona.”
I nod and I ask her, “No problem you are welcome.”
I walk to refill other customers drinks. Tressa walks back inside from the side door. She walks to the restroom to wash her hands. She walks into the dinning room. She sees Dawn sitting there enjoy her coffee.
Tressa says, “O my god DAWN!”
Tressa and Dawn hug, “When did you get back?”
Dawn says, “Today.”
Tressa asks her, “Do you have anywhere to stay?”
Dawn says, “Not yet I don’t.”
Tressa says, “I have a apartment you can crush in my guest bedroom if you would like.”
Dawn says, “Thank you.”
Tressa says, “It is the least I can do.”
Dawn says, “I would like to meet your cousin.”
Tressa says, “Clairie might not remember you.”
Dawn says, “I have heard some crazy stuff about town while being over seas.”
