Chapter 13: A jump in the future

After that night, I never loved again. I never trusted again and I never made any friends again. I forgave Augustus because I didn't want anything else to occupy my heart instead of my hatred for Diego. I appointed Augustus as the computer engineer in my father's company. While, I focused on training myself. It has been 2 years since I passed out from the supernatural school and 3 years, 5 months, 20 days and 15 hours since I last saw Diego. I even remember the date when all the backstabbing took place. It was 20 April 2009. It was now 2012.

Diego is now the alpha of his father's pack and under my orders. I am like his boss in everything. I never met him face to face. I always sent my Beta if they needed anything for their pack. He always asked about me but they never told anyone. My beta, which was Byron, told me that he never got mated with Nova. He never even saw her in their territory. He told me every single time, whenever he is on his territory, that he can't face him without getting the feeling of punching him in the face. We didn't break our alliance because this fight was mine not our packs. We needed all the resources we could have for the war we were about to have with Kai. Everybody thought that I could just infiltrate their pack territory and finish him off and I was like what am I a backstabber? I'll kill him looking him in his eyes and he will be begging me to kill him. Tomorrow I'll be standing, face to face, in front of Diego. Looking him in the eye, or not or completely just ignoring him. But I will look him straight in the eyes and let him see how much I've changed, developed and now I'm hard like a rock.

The next day came like just in a click of my fingers. Everybody was in the meeting hall, even Diego. They were all waiting for me. Almost 30 pack leaders were there, and my father and Diego's father were also there. I just sighed and went out wearing the best black dress I had in my closet. I had to make Diego jealous in some way. Everybody's eyes were at me now. I said, "Hello everyone, sorry for the wait. Now let's start with what all of you have on Kai Mason Wood. And I mean like everything. Where he was born, when, parents, when did he become alpha, and all that." When I finished what I had to ask Diego was the first one to speak. "I have enough on Kai. He was born in England in the year 850 A.D. He is a Hybrid, a wolf and a witch. He had an alliance with the crescent moon pack till 900 A.D. But I don't know why that alliance was broken." I said, "Because of me. I was born in 900 A.D. he tried to take me with him when I was born. My father broke that alliance off. You all deserve to know why he is my greatest enemy. But first, Alpha Diego will complete whatever he has on Kai." I looked at him and nodded my head a little giving him a sign to start. He then continued, "His mother was Lily Wood, father was James Wood and his mate is Abby Wood. We don't have any information on his mate but he has a brother, Oliver, and is 20 years younger than him. We can use him as leverage if we want to lure Kai into a trap. We won't hurt the child because he is innocent, we'll just hold him as hostage and try to turn him against his own brother." Diego then went on and on about whatever he had on Kai. I must admit I was impressed. When he was finished talking, I said, "Thank you everyone for being here today. Now, my pack members will show you all to your respective rooms and this meeting will be continued tomorrow. You may all leave now." I turned around and told every pack soldier to show everyone to their rooms. My mansion had enough rooms for all of the alphas. I went outside to have a smoke and to get some air. I heard someone enter from behind and I knew who it was and anybody could have guessed it. It was Diego, obviously. He said, "Since when did you start smoking?" I replied without looking at his face, "Since, the day you decided to backstab me." I could feel the guilt he was having but he did it and now he will have to face the consequences. Then he said, "listen Bella. I am-" I knew what he was going to say so I interrupted him and said, "Diego please. Don't give me this bullshit. If you were sorry, you wouldn't have done what you did in the first place. You know Diego, that knife stab didn't hurt me, the fact that you betrayed me for Nova, of all people, hurt me to a depth that nobody can repair me. So, just please go away, don't make it hard for me and you." Then he said, "No, I won't go away. You need to know why I did what I did. The reason why I sided with her was because she threatened me and my family. They had an alliance with the Darkwood pack and were out for your blood." Then I faced him and he continued, "She threatened that if I don't do that, she'll kill my family and.... *sighs* you. They would've killed you if I wouldn't have betrayed you. And I thought that betrayal is much better than being killed." Then I said, "I am immortal, Diego. I can't be killed. I am the tribrid." Then he replied, "I know that, bella. I told that to Nova too but she said had something that would make you half-dead. Some kind of dagger, umm.... She used a word O something." I knew what he was saying. "Oak wood. A dagger made out of Oak wood tree. That can make me half-dead. Well, thank you for sharing that but you could have told all of that to me that day or the day before." I spoke. I couldn't forgive him, could I? Well, we'll never know because after that I left and went to dad's company. I had some business there to attend to. When I entered my office. Augustus was standing there with some files in his hands. I said, "Auggie, do you have any problem?" He said, "Yes, Bella. There is one problem. The task that you gave me, I have completed it and these are the files. It appears that the brother Diego was talking about in the meeting is adopted. He is not his real brother. He just lives with them and Kai found him on the streets. He picked him up from an alley two years ago. He was 13 years old at that time. And Oliver has a twin, Abigail. She is a part of your pack, Bella." I replied, "Oh my god. He is Oliver Fleming, the boy who was kidnapped. My god. That means, Kai must have found him. Shit! We need to inform Mr. and Mrs. Fleming. We must bring him back. This is a breakthrough." I ran to my car and told Auggie to come with me. We reached the pack house and I had already told everyone to gather in the garden. Every pack member and every Alpha present in the house. I then said, "We found Oliver. He is with Kai now but we'll be taking him back today." While saying this my wolf eyes replaced my normal eyes. And every single wolf present there was afraid of what was going to happen that night. I continued, "Only one more Alpha will go with me. We don't want to draw attention. Diego, will you come?" He replied, "It would be my honour." I then said, "Very well. We'll go tonight and come back with Oliver." We had to go in two hours. I picked out a black outfit and a gun to carry with me. Its bullets were laced with a sedative which would make the wolves sleep for a few hours and it would give us a window to help Oliver escape. This would be a hell of a mission because I was going with Diego.

The time passed and the time came for us to go. We met at the gate. I told Diego every detail that was important for this mission. We reached the place where he was keeping him. That place was full of soldiers. I had training for this because I was The Black Dahlia. We went inside and fought some wolves and reached the room where Oliver was being kept. He knew me as he was a part of our pack and it had only been 2 years. He hung onto me and we escaped. This was easier than I thought it would be. Anyways, then we went back to the house and reunited the family.
