Hickory brown eyes stared into her pitch black ones the moment she came awake. She screamed in horror and reflexively got on her feet much to her sister's amusement.
"Hey scaredy cat..." Laila said cheekily.
"Oh no, you do not get to scare me like that..." Lola warned, trying to calm her racing heart.
"How did you get it?!" She exclaimed in wonder.
"You left the door open. How careless of you Titilola!"
"Well..." Lola was short of words, she had made a grave mistake owing to her muddled state of mind. She realised she was beginning to let these happenings get to her more than they should have. Her safety was imperative and could not be compromised for any reason and with that, she promised herself to never let such repeat itself ever again.
"When did you get in?"
"About thirty minutes ago." Laila stated, shocking her even more.
"Wow..." she breathed.
"Well go on and wash your face and come sit down so we can talk."
With a nod, Lola trudged out of the living room headed for her bedroom. Instead of washing her face like her sister had instructed, she opted for taking a shower and changing into something more comfortable.
Twenty minutes later she was crouched on her sofa right in front of her 'therapist' who gave her scrutiny induced gazes.
"Why are you staring at me like that?" Lola asked, visibly uncomfortable with her sister's stares.
"Look at me." Laila commanded, completely ignoring Lola's question.
She stared straight into Laila's hickory brown eyes trying to not give anything away. She had changed her mind and thought it best to not let her sister know about her relationship problems, she could sort them out all by herself.
"You're hiding something from me. I can tell..." Laila stated shortly with a firm nod.
"Why would you think so?"
"I don't think so, I know so." Laila stated firmly. Lola resisted her sister's prying gaze. L
"Ugh fine! It's just some relationship issues with David." she gave in.
Laila narrowed her eyes, sat up straight with arms folded across her chest.
"What did you do?" she asked seriously.
Lola was astonished. Why would everyone else think that whatever relationship problems she had were her fault. Yes, it was her first actual relationship but she didn't want to believe she was so bad at it.
"Why would you all assume that I'm to blame for anything that goes wrong between us? That's just wrong!" she exclaimed, unable to hide her confoundment at how easy it was to put the blame on her.
Laila simply rolled her eyes in response.
"Out with it." she urged her seemingly dramatic little sister.
By the time Lola had finished relaying her story, Laila was deep in thought.
"I understand that you both love each other but this whole scenario with Becca is a red flag."
"I know..." she drawled, visibly exhausted.
"Why don't you try calling him?"
"Why doesn't he call me?"
"You see what your problem is? Pride. This freakishly large ego of yours is going to get you heartbroken. You literally walked him out of your apartment and you couldn't even make an attempt to call him after so many days! Do you even want this relationship to work?!" Laila reprimanded sternly.
