"Mummy this asoebi is not giving. I should know, I'm the designer here." Lola sorted through the samples her mother had sent to her house with a frown on her face.
"I know omomi but I really like them," (My child.)
"But if you wear them it would spoil the color scheme Sani and I have decided on." She explained, hoping her typical Nigerian mother would not get pushy over this one.
"Na wa o." That came out as an unpleasant mutter.
"Tell you what mummy, I'll get you these materials but in different colours that would match with the theme we've planned," she decided that compromise was the best way to stop things from escalating.
"Mhmm, okay then. You're the boss,"
Lola let out a little chuckle just as her phone dinged. "Mummy please hang up for me, I have a call coming through." She told her mom who did so without delay.
"Hey Tana what's up?"
"Have you heard?"
She frowned. That was not the greeting she expected. "Heard what?"
Tana sigh"Hmm there's some bad news o."
Her heart lurched in that instant as an unappreciated feeling of worry hit her.
"Ah ah, what happened?" She managed to ask trying to avoid imagining the worst with her ever active mind.
"David's girlfriend just died."
"Jesus!!!" Lola screamed in horror. "Oh my goodness what happened to Sharon?" She had asked like she knew the girl so well.
Tana sighed heavily once again. "I don't know o my dear, people say she was sick but I really don't know."
"Oh my goodness. I wonder how David's holding up, her family, oh Jesus this is so sad. When did this happen?" Lola said all at once.
"This morning o my dear." Tana answered the last question, ignoring her friend's concerned rant.
"What a pity." Lola sighed. Sharon was so young, too young to have lost her life just like that.
She had to call him to at least be sure he was alright. "I'll reach out to him later today, hopefully when the tension dies down."
"You should. I think I'll do same." Tana said in agreement.
"Thanks for the info, Tana."
"It's alright. You take care."

He didn't pick any of her calls. She would have been worried but for the fact that he didn't pick Tana's calls either. He must have really been in his feelings, she thought.
Sharon's funeral was held a few days later and for the fact that she barely knew the lady, she couldn't attend, not even to see David who wept like a baby from the photos and videos she had seen online from the dark day.
"Why do you seem so worried cupcake?"
She had zoned out in the middle of her conversation with Eric once again as the images of David's sullen state flashed through her mind over and over.
"It's nothing." She shook her head, slowly continuing to stir the pancake batter in the bowl in front of her.
"You're sure? Is it work that's stressing you out again?" He asked further.
"Work always stresses me Eric." She chuckled, not ready for what he was about to say next.
"This is why I don't want you working. After our wedding, you'll just leave it so I can take care of you." He actually smiled like he just said the sweetest thing any woman needed to hear.
