Dean
Dean is 16 & Lucy is 5
Wrapping my arms tighter around my sister as she lay on my lap completely passed out from exhaustion, I stared out the plane window smiling at the beautiful sunset sky with nothing but complete content.
How I wish Lucy could have seen this view. Most little girls loved dancing, dolls and playing with friends. But not Lucy. Sure she loved playing with others and making my life a sweet little hell being the mischievous monkey she was. But the most favourite thing aside from food was a beautiful sunset.
I'd sometimes catch her staring at it either from outside in our garden or out the window. She'd sit there resting her little hands under her chin with nothing but happiness in her eyes.
Coming out of my trance, I looked over to James who was taking a photo of the sunset before gently hushing Isabella who was stirring in her sleep with her head on James' lap.
"You like sunsets?" I raised a brow at James who was grinning like a child at his sleeping wife.
Of course, I knew James' past life and the kind of man he once was. A man once leading a gang, killing twisted men and involved in illegal activities completely transformed into the most loving and gentle of men.
"Absolutely" he smiled at me as he rested his hand on Isabella's head and began stroking his fingers down her brown hair.
The private jet fell silent as we both continued to stare out the window, smiles on our faces as we sat consumed by peace.
We hadn't even arrived at the most magical place on earth, but I was starting to feel it.
"I feel bad" I blurted out instantly feeling James' eyes on me.
"Why? You have no reason to feel bad. I feel bad because I ate Isabella's hummus and blamed it on the dog. And the worst part is, she believed me and scolded our beloved dog. What an earth do you have to feel bad for. Do I need to get a tattoo on my forehead saying 'Dean is the best brother on the planet' or what?".
Shaking my head at James, I looked down at Lucy as she snuggled further into my chest with her cuddly bunny in her tight grip.
"It's just that, the day we were supposed to go to Disneyland, mum and dad were, killed" I whispered out once I placed my hands over Lucy's ear. I knew she was in a deep sleep from the drool she had left on my t-shirt, but I couldn't care less. I just didn't want my words to cause a nightmare in her peaceful sleep.
James gave me a sympathetic look before smiling at Lucy.
"It's sad, I'll admit that, but the only person who has to feel bad is the enemy because I know he sleeps with one eye open at your name. He knows that one day you'll come for him. He's getting older and you're getting stronger each day. Your mum and dad wouldn't want you to feel bad, in fact they'd want you there enjoying the fact that you saved your sister and living life to the fullest with her. She's flourishing Dean and that's down to you. You're a billionaire at the age of 16, I'd say you should most definitely start enjoying it".
With Isabella resting in his lap, James lent over and grabbed 2 bottles of diet coke. He skilfully opened the bottles with one hand before passing one over to me.
"To you and the man you've become" he cheered as we clinked the top of the bottles together.
Smiling at James, I took a swig of my ice cold drink and gave him a nod.
"Now, all I want is to get there and have Mickey Mouse pancakes" James laughed as he placed his drink down.
"PANCAKES" Lucy suddenly jumped up from my chest and hugged me tight.
