'Maybe changes aren't so bad'

It was a hot summer evening, Scarlett was home alone waiting for her dad to return. She was supposed to cook dinner for a few guests, change from her pyjama shorts and wear something good.

The guests in question were her dad's old friends and they had crossed paths a few days back and had decided to meet.

She had made food- chilly gravy with sauteed veggies and rice bowls.

Now all that was left to do was to change.
She went to her room and picked out a maroon dress shirt that fit her body.
She straightened her otherwise messy and wavy hair.

Feeling good and happy she applied a bit of makeup.
Now finally in her senior year in high school, she started to focus a bit on her appearance too. The otherwise bare face was now coated with a light layer of foundation and concealer.

She put in efforts today because these guests seemed important to her father.

The doorbell ringed and there stood a tall man with blonde hair and a varsity jacket.
The first sign of a cocky bastard she ignored.

Behind him were her father and another man.
She went and wrapped her arms around her father's torso. Inhaling his musky scent she held tight.

"Hi dear, let's go in yeah?", her father said.
Soon they all settled on the dining table and started eating.

Scarlett stood up excusing herself to go the bathroom. Once she came out she collided with a strong chest. Looking up she saw the blonde.
She took a step back but he blocked her and trapped her against the door and himself. Scarlett got uneasy and squirmed in his grip trying to free herself.

"Let me go", she gritted out with clenched teeth.

" Scarlett, wake up" a voice not so foreign called her.

Scarlet slowly woke up. Looking around she realised that she was on the couch in Alexander's cabin and had fallen asleep.

She rubbed her hands and wrapped them around herself. Noticing her feeling cold Alexander wrapped his coat on her small frame.
She thanked him and stood up.
Realising the dream she saw she whispered to herself, "Did I say anything out loud in my sleep?"

She was not so quiet though, and Alexander replied," You were asking someone to let you go. Bad dream I reckon? Let's go home shall we?"

Not understanding why he was being so understanding and caring she stood up nodding.

Looking out she saw the most beautiful site.
The entire Manhattan skyline was lit up and looked breathtaking.
She let out a gasp at the sight.

Alexander watched as her face lit up due to the reflection of the moon. Her eyes lit up too but with happiness, a strange feature for him. He had never seen an emotion so raw in someone's eyes and this was foreign to him.

Scarlett wrapped Alexanders coat tighter around her as a cool breeze blew past her.

Alexander walked up to her and took her small cold hand in his. Interlacing their fingers, sending chills down her spine, he walked out the door with her towing behind.

Once they reached Alexanders penthouse Scarlett went to the kitchen to cook something up for the two of them.

"Mom sent over food. Just reheat it", came a voice from behind her.

" Okay. Where do you eat?", she said.

"I'm not hungry. You can eat though."

"What do you mean you are not hungry? You have to eat Mr Knight.", she said almost as if commanding him.

Alexander raised a brow, amused by that tone and challenging her to repeat.
"We will have the food together from now on whenever we can. You need to take care of your health. ", she said.

Alexander let out a hearty chuckle, crossing his arms- his muscles flexing through the rolled sleeves of his formal button-down- and said," Who gave you the authority to demand from me, Carina?"

"I'm your wife, aren't I?", she countered.

" Are you now?", he said. An eyebrow raised he stood there with an amused smirk dancing on his lips.

He took slow and calculated steps towards her, placing his arms on either side of her hourglass frame and trapping her between his body and the countertop.

He leaned down, his nose almost touching hers and whispered, "I'm not hungry Carina"

Scarlett was dazed, staring into his eyes, breathing in his scent.

She was stunned to even say something so she just nodded.

This was progress for a girl who feared touch wasn't it?
