“Ugh” Oakley moaned, “Why exactly, do we have to unload ALL this hay?” As she slipped on a pair of gloves and started to help Hugh unload the hay.
“Listen kiddo; you live on a farm, you do the work. Simple as that” Hugh replied. You see, Hugh was our stable hand, well… stable Master. He can pick ANYTHING up and is extremely strong. His full name was Hugh Lively, which he didn’t like people calling him that unless it was Larcie Nettle his, ‘Sweet heart’.
“Fine,” Oakley moaned again until she grabbed another bale of hay.
“Why do kids moan all the time?” Hugh teased Oakley.
“I don’t know, why does Dad moan all the time? It’s genetic.” Oakley choked out before laughing her butt off, while Hugh began to chuckle. Right before they unloaded the last bale Oakley felt a freezing substance going down her back.
“AHH!!!” Oakley screamed as she looked around facing her father Jason Robert, he just stood there about to wet himself while holding a bucket of what once was water.
“What’s wrong with you?” She said half seriously and half laughing. Oakley snuck around the truck and walked and got a big ‘ole bucket of half soap and water mix. She chuckled as she walked slyly over to her father.
“Dad,” She said in a fake sweet accent of hers.
“Hmm,” was all her father let out, until she dumped the entire bucket onto him.
“What the Crap?!” he yelled, “You!” He chuckled out.
“Oh, what’s wrong? It’s a little cold?” Oakley teased before running up to the barn house before he could grab her.
“I’m gonna get you!” He yelled in a chuckle.
Oakley yelled over her should, “Only if you catch me OLD MAN!” And it was on, for one Jason didn’t like to be called old and too his clothes were soaked.
“What happened to y’all” said Riley while she chuckled.
“Nothin’ mom,” Oakley yelled towards her mom.
“OK, ok once you done rolling around in the mud come inside and eat.” She said then paused, looking over at the truck, “You too Hugh, Lunch!” She yelled towards Hugh.
Jason picked Oakley up over his shoulder and said, “Come on, lunch.”
They walked in and he put her down as she ran upstairs and got changed. She came back down to find her dad and mom smooching in the kitchen.
“Ugh, a little more warning next time, goodness.” She moaned, which made her parents kiss even more just to gross her out, which worked. Just as Hugh walked in and looked at them.
“Can y’all get a room?” Hugh chuckled while Jason and Riley parted.
Oakley looked over at Hugh and said, “Hugh, it’s not as bad as when you go to town and get the looks for Larcie.” Hugh just rolled his eyes and sat at the farm table. Everyone sat at the table and said their prayers.
“So Margie,” Oakley said to the elderly man sitting at the end, “Did you finish you book last night?”
“Yup and it ended horribly. I threw it in the fire pit.” He said chuckling then getting a spoonful of soup that mom had prepared. Then everyone chuckled and continued to talk and have a good time.
