Sarah paced back and forth slowly. She was excited about tomorrow but also really nervous. Her interview tomorrow was for one of the biggest companies in the world, named Smith's Raise. She had always dreamt about working there and this company had been such an inspiration to her as an interior designer. Her naked feet stopped moving on the maroon carpet when she thought about who this company was run by. Someone who she had always admired from afar but hesitated to say so thinking that he could never feel the same. Xavier she spoke his name and felt the smile appear on her face. Smiling at how smoothly it rolled of her tongue as if it was designed for her. Her heart warmed at the reminder of a certain someone. Thus her mind did what it could think of. Replay their first meeting ever in front of her eyes like a snippet from a romance novel.
*Flashback starts*
Sarah huffed as she looked down at her soaked dress. The water coming from the tap of the sink flowed unevenly as it also decided to spray itself on her shirt besides being used for cleaning the dishes. Taking a mental note, she thought that she would tell her parents to fix this later. For now, she had to change into dry and neat clothes. She was about to head up to her room to change when the doorbell rang. Standing still, she thought for a moment who could it be. Her parents were out for work and his brother was gone to get his Phone checked. None of them could be back before an hour or two. Before the person on the other side of the door could walk away, she hurriedly grabbed her scarf from the table and opened the door a bit. In front of her, stood Xavier Smith, her brother's best friend she had the pleasure of seeing around. She didn't speak, couldn't even if she wanted to. But didn't dare to look directly at him. Eyes downcast and waiting for him to speak first. It seemed though however that this was his first time seeing her. She shifted slightly as his stare assessed her. She was suddenly very conscious of how she might look at the moment. Do I look okay? Is my hair showing. She couldn't stop thinking. Thankfully, he spoke as if he also realized that she was becoming uncomfortable under his gaze. He asked. "Hi...I'm Xavier. Ahmet's friend. Is he here?"
Sarah spoke shaking her head. "He's actually out running some errands. He informed me that you might drop by so he wanted to me to give you something."
Disappearing behind the door, she closed her eyes and released a breath to try and calm her erratic heartbeat. Grabbing the envelope from the coffee table, she appeared a bit later to stretch her hand. On her open palm lay a little envelope. He took it and made sure that he doesn't touch her. Sarah read this as a sign of respect. She noted that. He looked back a bit confused. To which Sarah replied with a smile. "He said he had some kind of give and take with you regarding money or whatever"
Xavier's mouth formed an 'o' shape as he realised that in the envelope lay the money Ahmet had borrowed from him. Xavier scratched his back nervously smiling "Well, he does keep his records straight when it comes to these things.."
Sarah smiled again and said "That's a good thing" This time, their eyes met holding each other captive. Longer than they should have. His eyes, she thought, held a certain sadness. A certain depth that she just couldn't simply ignore. Deciding to break the silence, she spoke this time, a bit warmly. "I'm Sarah by the way, nice to meet you.." Xavier nodded respectfully. "And I, well, you might already know since I'm almost all the time at your house." Sarah laughed a bit at that and Xavier's smile widened. After a moment or so, Xavier took his leave and after a final goodbye turned around. Sarah watched his back as his leather jacket covered his broad shoulders. She shut the door and bit her lip. But her smile dropped when she realised the severity of the situation and it's dull reality. She could build a million dreams but the fact remained that their worlds were polls apart. Sighing, she moved away.
*Flashback ends*Thinking back to that and even now. She shook her head. Nothing changed. Their worlds remained the same. They might have changed but their situation was no different than it was before. In fact, it was much tougher now. He was counted as one of the top business man while she was a plain middle class woman. The society would not accept them together. But that worry was for latter. For now, she wanted to know if he felt the same. She questioned if he felt that there was a connection between them. If he found something naturally comforting about being in the same room as her because she definitely did. Releasing a long sigh, she looked at the time on her phone. She had the interview tomorrow for which she had to wake up early. She decided it was better for her to think about this later. Her tired eyes wanted rest.
