Hours drag on into days and still not a single word from Clarke. The hundred and the grounders wait restlessly to hear back any news, but there was nothing but radio silence. Not even a single peep from the other side. If Mount Whether was truly still active in another location, there was no one better to find it than Clarke Griffin; however, it was far too dangerous to do alone. But there was no other choice but to let her go. Without discovering the truth about Mount Whether, they may never win the raging war with Christian and Natkru. With the mission came risks, and while others would have no issue risking it all to save themselves and their people, Bellamy didn't want to bet Clarke's life on finding the truth.
Every day he wakes and waits to hear Clarke's voice on the other end of the radio. Not wanting to miss the chance to hear she's safe, he's given his tent to Kane and the other Arkadian's while Bellamy slept in the dropship next to the radio. And when he wakes in the morning he sits and waits or walks the perimeter of the dropship. Today was no different.
"You're gonna wear out the floor if you keep pacing like that" Raven remarks, ignoring the glare Bellamy throws her way. "Seriously Blake, go outside. Get some fresh air. If she calls you'll be the first to know."
"I'm not leaving."
"Bellamy-"
"It's been three days Raven!" He grumbles.
"Clarke said so herself it may take a few days before she even finds this place. If it exists at all." But even with her argument, no matter how true it was, it didn't stop Bellamy from shaking his head vigorously.
"Something's wrong. I know it."
"Bell." Octavia enters suddenly. Both occupants in the dropship whip their heads in the young Blake's direction as she blurts out, "It's Madi."
Bellamy, for the first time since Clarke left, leaves the dropship. He runs outside and follows his sister to the little grounder. They find her in Clarke's tent as she always is at night but shes on her side curled up in pain, her skin pale and drenched in sweating, as she whimpered. Bellamy drops to his knees and kneels as he gently rolls he over. She curls in more but cuddles closer to him as his scent wafts through her nose.
"B'lmy." She whimpers.
"Madi? What's wrong?"
"It hurts." she cries.
Bellamy furrows his brow as he looks the child over, but finds no sign of injury, before he realizes what Madi meant. The full moon is fast approaching and her body was preparing for the chance. She was like this once before when the last full moon came, only this time Madi didn't have the only other person who could help see her through Clarke. The only other person who knew what the little grounder was going through and what to do. It was only her second transformation and she was far too young and her body has yet to adjust for the pain to be bearable.
"She's been acting off all day and yesterday. But when she never showed up for dinner I came to check on her and found her like this. She hasn't moved since."
"It's the full moon. She's still young, it's a lot on her body."
"Wait, she's like Clarke?" Octavia asks, stunned as she stares in her brother's direction.
The hundred knew the truth of what Clarke was after her fight with Christian, but no one knew about Madi. With a sigh Bellamy lifts Madi up and cradles her, her head on his chest as she whimpers and shivers. He nods silently as the little grounder clutches his shirt. She groans and makes little noises as a wave of pain takes over. He waits until she's settled before telling Octavia the full truth of what he knows. Only nightbloods have the curse, but to activate it they have to take a life. He explains that Clarke believed Madi was taken by the remaining Mountain men and that when Madi escaped she activated her curse; however, whatever happened out there was too traumatic and her mind blocked out the memories. That or she was drugged so heavily she couldn't remember what happened. Clarke didn't know, but she hoped to find the answer on her mission in the Mountain.
Octavia stares down at the child as her brother spoke, her heart constricting in her chest as she knelt beside them. "What'd we do?" Bellamy thinks over the possibilities, but there were few options to help. Madi needed to be away from the camp, that was for sure.
"There's caves nearby I can take her too when she changes. But-" he stops and looks at the tent door conflicted.
He can't let Madi change by herself but he's also worried about Clarke. If she calls he won't be around. Then again if it's a full moon she won't be in human form.
"I'll take her." Octavia offers as she rubs Madi's back comfortingly.
"No." Bellamy shakes his head. "Stay here with Raven and watch the radio. Tomorrow I'll take Madi to the caves. Keep her safe."
"Are you sure, big brother?" The brunette asks worried. She knows how much he cares about Clarke and how worried he's been that she's been gone so long, still injured and recovering, in enemy territory, alone. And still no word on if she's found the new bunker and if she's okay.
"Madi needs me. I can't let her do this alone." His sister nods and leaves to give Raven an update on the change in plans.
When the next day arrives Bellamy wakes to find Madi up with bursts of energy, even with her body still sore and in pain, she is up and moving again. He lets her run around and eat her breakfast before they take their hike outside of camp to find the cave system nearby. Bellamy slows his pace to keep up with the little grounder until they reach the caves. Once inside he sets down their supplies, only to stumble when her little arms wrap tightly around his hips. Her muffled thank you her only words before she helps set out the blankets. Bellamy kneels beside her and allows the child to fall into his arms, holding her tight until she pulls away.
"I know it's hard, Madi. But I will be here every step of the way, okay?"
"I know." She smiles sadly and takes the water he offers her. "I miss Clarke."
"Me too." He mutters.
Hours pass as day turns to night before the full moon begins to rise. Her pain increasing tenfold as the moon begins to hit it's highest peak. Bellamy's heart clenches tightly in his chest as he hears her whispers and cries, but all he could do was wrap her little bod in a blanket and mutter words of encouragement until she crouches down and emerges as a wolf.
Her wolf shakes off the blanket and ruffs her fur before she lies down beside Bellamy, her head perches on his knee from exhaustion. He brushes her head and she curls closer. Her blue eye shining in the moonlight as he smiles at her silent thank you.
Bellamy's smile turns into a grin as she gets up and begins to run around, her energy not only renewed but enhanced as she pounces from wall to wall. It was amazing seeing her like this, not only playing and being carefree as she always has been before, but to see her transformed into the creature she was now. It was like a dream. He's seen Clarke's wolf and is always mesmerized by the beauty of her wolf. Wolves are majestic and amazing creatures, but to see them up close was as if being in another world; hybrid or not.
She surprises him when her running comes to a stop and starts to paw at him, and gently bites at his sleeves to play. "Okay, okay, I'm up." he chuckles as Madi jumps up when he stands and runs around in a circle. The little wolf pants and jumps around, pawing at him on his abdomen as she whimpers. It takes a few moments before Bellamy understood what she was asking for. "Hungry?" She whimpers again and sniffs at his bag. "Lucky for you I packed extra food."
Wolf Madi jumps up and runs around excitedly as she eats the jerky he gives her. When she calms down he lays a blanket over her and tucks her in before drifting off to sleep. When the moon falls and the sun rises he finds in the am he wakes to find Madi in human form, dressed, and sound asleep beside him. The child cuddled closer in her sleep. She must be exhausted, he thinks, more than he was given he didn't hear her in the night as she changed.
"Bell? Bellamy come in!" His radio crackles to life. He jumps up from the noise and grabs his radio from his bag.
"O? What's wrong?" He hurries to speak.
"It's Clarke! We found her and she's alive. Raven tracked her down. Miller is organizing a group to find her." Bellamy sits up at that, hurrying to answer before turning to find Madi already waking up from the commotion.
"We're on our way."
