Loucille had never felt so light and carefree. Or at least, she hasn't in a while. Her body felt separate from her mind and her being, moving on its own accord to the music blaring through the party she had somehow found herself at.
She didn't know where her friends were that night, she only knew that she needed to get out of her dark and lonely apartment. Since she moved out from her shared apartment with Dylan, she constantly felt alone. But now, she could spend her nights with all these people she didn't know and losing control over he kind and senses.
The girl had lost count of how many hits and drinks she had taken at that point, her mind in another world as she moved to the beat. Someone passing by her was handing out drinks, graciously shoving one in her face; which she gladly accepted.
She wasn't sure how long she had been there for, or how long she even intended to stay. But her attention was quickly averted from the crowd of strangers she had befriended to two very familiar faces pushing their way through the mass.
"Oh my gosh, Lo! Zach!" Loucille screams, throwing her hands excitedly around them. "I'm so glad you guys are here, these people are so much fun!"
"Lou, what the fuck are you doing?" Elora yells back, her eyes wide in worry as notices the state of her best friend. She took a second to take in the contracted pupils and dopey eyes and the disgusting stench of alcohol wafting off of everyone.
Zach had his arms out, forming a barrier around the two girl. "El, we need to get her out of here. You can reprimand her later."
"What? I don't wanna leave, I'm having so much fun!"
His girlfriend let out a sigh, knowing he was right and dragged the girl along to grab her stuff before they left. Lou was pushed into the backseat of Zach's car, no longer complaining about leaving the party as her unhinged mind easily latches onto something else to focus on.
The couple in the front seats were jittery with worry over the girl sat behind them. This behavior wasn't unusual for Loucille since she's had a drug problem in the past, but they all thought it was a long way behind her these days.
Upon arrival to her apartment, Zach picks her up and begins to carry her upstairs with Elora right in front of him to unlock the front door. He gently places her weighed down body on the couch, moving the hair off her face as his girlfriend went to grab some water for her.
Loucille looked up at her friend with a hazed smile. "You're a good friend, Zachy. I love you."
"I love you too, Lou." he replies, slightly choked up at her disheveled state.
Elora comes back, helping the girl sit up and practically forcing the water down her throat. A loud banging comes from the front door, Zach quickly leaving the two girls' side to answer it.
"I came as quick as I could." Omar pants, barging into the apartment behind Zach. "What happened? Is she okay?"
"Lou, baby, what did you take?" Elora asks her gently.
"A big dose of happiness." the brunette giggles at her friends. "Why didn't Dylan come with you guys? We always have so much fun together."
Her friends could swear on their lives that they all heard their hearts collectively break that night as they heard her speak. They knew she wanted to forget, about him and about all the pain he caused her. They were all stupid not to see this coming.
"Big dose of happiness? Does she mean Opioids?" Omars eyes widen in realisation, praying to everything holy that she hasn't ingested anything too dangerous.
Zach crouches down by her side so he was face to face with her. "Hey, Lou." he speaks gently. "We need you to tell us what you took, okay? Did it go up your nose or in your arms?"
Loucille squints her eyes at the boy, not exactly giving him a direct answer, causing him to let out a defeated sigh and stand back up again.
"Lou, do you know what exactly you put in your body tonight?" Elora asks again, her voice still gentle but carrying a great sense of urgency.
The dazed girl let out a gleeful hum. "I just wanted to feel happy, Lo. Aren't you happy? You guys never said where Dyl was!"
The blondes head falls into her palm at the response, the two males beside her just as frustrated - in a worried way.
"What do we do?" Zach asks, eyes flitting between his two friends urgently.
"We get her clean again." Elora decides, getting off the couch again. "And we start by getting her off this high."
Zach watched as Omar and his girlfriend moved frantically around the house and kitchen, figuring out different ways to get the girl sober again. He sat by her side, holding her hand tightly as she begad to drift off to sleep.
"What the hell happened that night?" he asked, to no one in particular.
"She won't talk about it." Omar answered. "But whatever it was, he hurt her so bad."
Elora let out a tut from behind them. "Because she was so in love with him. I've never seen her as happy as he made her. Now that's all gone."
