we're dancing around the kitchen
in the refrigerator light

Unwrapping the arm around her waist, Loucille rubs at her eyes and pushes herself off the bed. Her feet carry her towards the bathroom, the floor cold under her skin as she moves.

Flushing the toilet and washing her hands, she exits their shared bedroom and heads towards the kitchen. The apartment was dim, nothing but the city lights shining through the windows; their beams peaking through the curtains and emitting a soft glow.

Loucille stands in the kitchen for a second, trying to figure out what she can make to help her fall asleep. She didn't know what it was but for some reason, she had been tossing and turning all night; the sleep unwilling to wash over her.

The decision to creep around their small apartment had come after hours of fidgeting under the sheets and the revelation that she would eventually wake up the man asleep next to her. She thought maybe roaming around and grabbing a snack would help.

She grabs a clean cup from next to the sink and quietly fills it up, the water easing her dry throat. Pulling the refrigerator open, she stands staring into it, her eyes raking over its contents and letting the cool air wash over her bare legs. Dylans large shirt wasn't doing her any favors in keeping her warm.

"What are you doing?" Dylans hoarse voice comes from behind her, startling the girl and causing her to let out a small shriek.

She turns to look at him with her hand on her chest. "God, don't do that, Dyl. You almost gave me a heart attack."

"It's two thirty in the morning, Lou." he chuckles, his eyes looking over her lovingly in their sleepy state. "Why aren't you in bed?"

"I couldn't sleep." she shrugs, taking another sip of her water.

"You feeling okay?" he asks, wrapping his arms around her waist as he comes to stand directly in front of her.

Loucille nods her head with a smile. "Yeah, just restless I think."

She places her cup down onto the counter next to them and wraps her arms around his neck tightly; both of them completely forgetting about the open fridge. One of his hands moves from her waist up to the back of her head as he begins to sway on the spot.

A quiet chuckles escapes her. "What are you doing?"

"We're dancing." he hums, picking her up and turning in a circle.

"There's no music playing!"

"And?"

Dylan takes hold of both of her hands, lifting one of them up in the air and twirling her around, her laughter sounding like heaven to his ears. She goes around twice, her hair flying all over the place until he pulls her back into him.

There they danced, across the cold kitchen floor with barely any feeling of their toes. Their silhouettes illuminated by the warm glow of the refrigerator light and the soft yellow street light still creeping through their curtains.

Her fingers clutch tightly onto his shoulders as he starts swaying them once again; one hand on her waist and the other holding onto hers. Loucille rests her head on his shoulder, nestling her nose into his neck as she peppered small kisses onto it.

"I love you." she whispers, her body full of an unexplainable feeling of euphoria.

Dylan turns his head slightly to look down at her, pressing his lips firmly to her forehead. "And I love you, Lou."

Their moment was interrupted by the beeping coming from the fridge, finally wanting them that it had been open for too long. Loucille pulls away from the warm embrace with a laugh, pushing the silver door shut before grabbing her cup of water.

"Come on." Dylan hums, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. "We can watch a movie until you're tired."

Loucille rolls her eyes at him. "You're gonna fall straight back to sleep."

"Then, I promise I'll cuddle you for the whole time."

"Hm, deal."
