we're singing in the car getting lost upstate
you almost ran the red cuz you were
looking over at me

"Dylan it's literally three days, why are there so many things in the car?" Loucille giggles as she shoves her duffel bag into the backseat of the boys convertible.

The two of them were in New York for the week and the man insisted on taking her for an upstate getaway. He had taken all liberty in packing for their trip, only instructing her to bring along clothes.

"You never know what you need to be prepared for!" Dylan argues, shutting the trunk and rounding the car to wrap his arms around her. "Hey."

The girl lets out another short giggle. "Hi."

She reaches onto her tiptoes, gently pressing her lips against his own. One of his hands moves from her waist to caress her cheek as she leans into his touch. Neither of them had felt that content in a while.

"Come on, we can do plenty more of that when we get to the cabin." he announces, placing one final peck on her nose before moving around to the drivers seat and leaving the girl laughing at his erratic actions.

It was a couple hours drive, which meant a lot of road-trip music playing over the speakers. It was the middle of Autumn so the roads were filled with orange and red leaves, a soft breeze blowing through the girls hair as she smiles to herself.

They were singing along to a random Beatles song then but the playlist Loucille had compiled stretched miles beyond that. One of her hands was grasped tightly in one of his own, while his other remained on the steering wheel.

She wouldn't say it out loud, -using the excuse of the cold wind nipping her cheeks for making them so red- but she could see him glancing over at her every once in a while and it would make her face flush every time she noticed it.

The song had ended, 'Wouldn't it be Nice' by the Beach Boys starting to play. Loucille let out an excited gasp, claiming it as one of her favorite songs as she reaches to turn the volume up.

"And wouldn't it be nice to live together, in the kind of world where we belong!" the girls yells along to the lyrics, Dylan laughing along from behind her.

He couldn't take his eyes off the road ahead for too long, but every glance he took at her made his breathing stop for a moment. The way the sun was shimmering off of her porcelain skin and reflecting off of her nose ring, the way her hair was blowing elegantly behind her in the wind and the way her smile brightened up her whole face and subsequently his own.

"Happy times together we've been spending," he sings to her, holding her hand up closer to his face, "I wish that every kiss was never ending!"

"Wouldn't it be nice!" they sing along together, falling into fits of laughter at the out of tune notes coming from their mouths.

Loucilles eyes widen, holding a hand out to the man next to her. "Red light!"

Dylan quickly steps on the brakes, holding a hand out in front of her body to keep her from flinging too hard against the seat belt. Luckily there were no other cars behind them so they didn't have to worry about anyone else slamming into them.

"You okay?" he asks, looking over at her in concern as soon as they've stopped.

The girl next to him doesn't answer however, she simply start laughing again. She couldn't explain why if she was asked, but the symphony of her laugh echoing through his ears made him laugh along with her. He couldn't tell you why either.

As soon as she's calmed herself down, she grabs hold of his hand again and brings it to her lips as she rests her head against the headrest. "Am I too distracting for you, O'Brien?"

"Hm, maybe just a little." he replies, leaning over to press another quick kiss on her lips before the light turned green again. "But you can't really blame me, have you seen yourself?"

"Oh my God, you're too much." she laughs, turning her head to look at the views they were soaring past. "Do you even know where you're going?"

"We'll get there, don't you worry your pretty little mind."

"Okay, never say that again. And we're gonna get lost, Dyl."

"Have you no faith in me, Elle?" he mockingly gasps, pulling his hand out of her grasp.

"I have faith in you, not your geographical skills." she points out. "You got lost on your way to my apartment yesterday."

Dylan rolls his eyes jokingly. "It was a complicated route, okay?"

"I literally live three blocks down from you!"

"Minute details!"

The two of them are laughing yet again, not even caring if they got lost anymore. Because they both knew, if they had each other's company, then that was more than enough.

So as the autumn leaves flew past as they drove along, a sense of serenity washed over the couple. Their fingers intertwined and their voices out of tune, but nothing could be more perfect.
