Watching James escorted from the ship when we docked in South America was quite possibly one of the best days of my life. I had no idea where they'd been keeping him within the days since Cody and I had found Cassia, but I hoped it was somewhere scary.
Cassia had decided to stay in her room, Annette was accompanying her. Kathryne stood next to me. After quite a few hours of convincing, I'd explained the whole story and she was about as ready to hunt him down as I was. But since we didn't want to be kicked off the ship, we refrained.
Despite the glee in the air, clouds loomed overhead predicting rain.
"God. The sight of him makes me sick." Kathryne spat, lighting up a cigarette. She didn't care whether or not anybody saw her, because they couldn't do anything. Her father was a big-time lawyer in Australia, and in her words it was one damn strike of fate.
"I know how you feel." Cody muttered, sidling up beside us. He was glaring at the car James was seated in, and his dark clothes made him appear as somebody not to mess with. The car looked about as big as a toy from so high, but that didn't stop us from being overjoyed that he as sitting in it.
Pushing off the railing, I wrapped my arms around his waist, immediately feeling the tension in his back.
"Are you okay?" I frowned, looking up at him.
"Yeah, I just can't get over what he did. He seemed like such a cool dude, y'know?"
"It sucks, I know." Kathryne put in, dropping the end of her cigarette over the railing just as May came bouncing up.
"Did I miss it?" Her face was flushed from running, and she was breathing hard.
"Just." Kathryne smiled slightly. "The jerk just got pulled off in a cruiser."
"Oh." She shrugged. "At least he's gone."
"Amen to that." Kathryne chuckled. "Wanna go get a smoothie with me?"
"'Kay. See you two later!" May winked, sauntering off beside our new friend.
Cody turned around, hugging me back as he buried his face in my hair. "At least he's gone now."
"I don't wanna talk about James anymore." I whined. It only brought up unwanted memories.
"Fine." He smiled, reverting back to his usual self. "Sooo, about us?"
"What about us?" I sighed, pulling away from him and sinking into a nearby deck chair.
"Well, I think you like me." He smiled cheekily, his expression at odds with his dark clothing.
"Oh, do you?" I inquired, an odd feeling stirring in the pit of my stomach.
"Yes. And would you like to know how I know?" He cocked an eyebrow.
I simply shrugged, and gestured for him to go on. Sometimes, anything involving Cody was way too confusing to even bother. Especially when I could barely decide how I felt about him.
"You just do." He grumbled. Obviously, I hadn't provided the answer he was hoping for.
"You can't know that."
"Why not?"
"Because I don't even know how I feel!" I burst, my hand flying to my mouth after the words came out.
"So, there's a possibility?" A slow grin spread across his face.
"I don't know." I shrugged, a small smile forming.
"I'll just assume that means yes." Cody chuckled.
"You know, you shouldn't assume-" He cut me off mid-sentence in an exasperated tone.
