Daniel POV:

"You should leave," Those words were reasoning in his head like a hammer was hitting his brain on repeat. He sure knew she was coming tonight, she knew that he would be weird and awkward, but he had never imagined in any chance in hell that she would make him doubt all his conviction and rethink everything he had done in his life. As soon as his eyes met her, his heart sank and his mind became blurry excluding one thing, her. She was beautiful, mesmerizing in his summer dress, different from who he remembered but still very much like her. She had grown even more gorgeous than she already had and her shy body language made her whole body react. It was like he never left, all these memories came back rushing to him. The laugh, the joke, the deep conversation, the unspoken secret between them, everything ...

But now, she was cold, he realized how tired she looked, exhausted even though she could barely stand and all he wanted to do now was to protect her. He knew he had his parts to play in it. He knew it was mostly his fault, yet he had hopes she would have moved on and put the past behind.

He was a junk and he knew it, he couldn't help being selfish, it wasn't the first time he had seen her since he left Perth to pursue his dream. Trying to forget her and succeeding until his feets were hitting mother's ground once more and all he could think about was her. She was a part of his life, his past, the biggest part actually. He made himself a promise when he cowardly left, to never see her again because he knew how much pain he had inflicted her but his own desire had made him break his own rules a couple of times, incapable of letting her go.

And here we are now, in her apartment, his hand on her cheek, trying to erase all the tears he knew she had cried because of him. His heart was harsh at the view of this beautiful and strong woman that he had broken in millions pieces.

How could he admit to her that he knew he had played with her heart ?

How can he tell her that he was the biggest bastard of the universe for holding her after everything ?

How could he beg for her pardon when he knew damn well what he did was unforgivable ?

How could he reveal to her that he didn't know how to explain that he couldn't let her go.

He hated himself for it, there were no excuses , no forgiveness and he knew that if he had left in that car tonight, that was it. The thought had made him feel sick in his stomach and he couldn't figure why.

So he rushed to her with all the intention of telling everything he had on his heart, and letting her do the same no matter how much he would destroy them both, but as soon as she opened that door and he saw her, everything just disappeared from his brain and he was only seeing her. He wanted to kiss her right away knowing she would reject him. Ashamed of his thought he had prefered not saying a word and trying to find answers in her environment. Looking at pictures, searching for a man that he knew didn't exist. Hoping she had replaced him with another one so he could finally move on. He could have stayed here all night as long as he was with her, but she decided overwise.

Rejecting him as soon as made a move toward her. He had it coming and he certainly deserved it. He wasn't mad at her, if so, she turned him completely crazy for her, making him become her muppet and he was gladly letting her step over him if that meant he still could have her in his life.

Her POV :

As soon as his hand left your cheek, you felt cold and in physical pain. It was like Daniel was your painkiller and warming you by his touch and you already miss it. Despite all the signs your body was trying to send you, your mind was stronger, turning on the autopilot to protect the flame in your heart.
