(TW: mention of drugs. Don't be scared besties.) (but for other reasons, you should be scared) Enjoy!
Harry ran out of the cafeteria. He couldn't handle all of the people coming up to him and apologizing for a rumor.
Who came up with that shit?
Harry wanted to run to the library but it was closed for some reason, "Harry!" He heard the familiar Doncaster accent call from down the hall. Harry couldn't handle that too, not his synthetic pity.
"Leave me alone please." Harry mumbled as he walked out onto the football field, he needed a breath of fresh air.
Even though Harry had asked him to go away, Louis stayed because he needed to figure out what was going on with his possible friend. "Harry please talk to me."
"Why would I talk to you? You know nothing about me." Harry only said the truth.
"Is it true? What people are saying?" The wind blew in Harry's hair which he tried his best to contain it.
"What? That I'm an addict? No Louis it's not fucking true. If you knew anything about me you would see that. But, you don't."
"I'm just trying to help you." Right after Louis said this he realized he had made a big mistake. Harry looked like he was fuming red.
"I don't need help Louis. I'm not some puzzle you can solve." Harry huffed, "I'm not a fucking case on Criminal Minds."
Louis breathed in and out trying to calm himself. "I know that."
"Obviously you don't! Or else you would be trying to get to know who I actually am instead of just the bad things. I'm not going to be your fixer upper."
"Then what was all the Lou stuff about?"
Harry had to think quick on his feet because he didn't even know that it was. "A lapse in judgement."
Louis rolled his eyes, "you're lying to yourself."
"No I'm not. You are. If you think this is anything more than us sitting at a table at the library then you're wrong." Harry continued, "I never wanted to be your friend. I never wanted to be in this fucking situation to begin with."
"You don't mean that." Louis said slightly hurt. Why didn't he say this before? Then they wouldn't have to bother each other.
"No I do. And please never speak to me again." He stomped off the field and back inside the building.
Louis threw his backpack on the ground and started kicking a football into the net repeatedly. His anger in flowing into every kick.
The week went by, Louis and Harry never met at the library. And, Harry stopped coming Louis' practices. He started watching YouTube videos instead. Although it wasn't as fun nor interesting, he dealt with it.
Harry's mother was out for the weekend on a business trip despite his father, Des, begging her to stay. But, at least there was some silence in the house.
Louis stayed the night at Niall's house which took his mind off of things. On Saturday night Louis had a football match, but they ended up losing which just made everything worse.
"What went on out there?" Mr. Owens scolded them. "We practice every single day. I put in days of work and you still lose. We are supposed to be one of the top three teams."
Louis held his head in his hands. What was going on? Was this thing with Harry affecting him that much?
Yeah, it was. The more that Louis thought about it, the more that he realized Harry was right. He was trying to figure him out like a puzzle instead of actually getting to know him. Louis needed to figure out how to apologize to Harry.
"Go to the showers. When we get back on Monday, I'm going to make practice an extra 30 minutes longer. We need it." All of the boys in the locker room groan once Mr. Owens walked out. It was a lot to handle with homework, studying, practice, and having a social life on top of all of that so no one called you a loser.
Louis got in the shower and then changed before Niall drove him back to his house. Niall didn't sleepover because he knew Louis needed the kind of rest that he couldn't give him. They said goodbye and barely talked for the rest of the weekend.
On Monday, Harry walked into school empty handed. "Hey Harry!" Liam called. He was standing in a circle with Zayn and Nathan.
"Hey!" He responded happily. Harry had kind of drifted from his friends other than having lunch with them because Louis was simply too popular to waste his time with the 'losers'.
Nathan frowned, "no cookies?"
"Nope." Harry just didn't feel like it. I mean it was a lot to make cookies every single week for a class of 28 students.
"Rude."
Liam let his jaw drop, "are you a drug addict Harry?"
He rolled his eyes, "shut up. People are going to hear you." Harry pushed Liam's shoulder.
"How have you been?" Zayn asked, "you've basically left us in the dust."
Harry rolled his eyes at the comment, although it was mostly true. "I've been fine. Barely left you in the dust."
"Good." The bell interrupted their conversation and they waved goodbye to each other.
Harry walked into room 28, his home room with Mr. Owens, Nathan's dad who had yet to tell any embarrassing stories. Louis wasn't there like he usually was but Harry didn't mind it.
He wouldn't tell anyone but it was just a little bit lonely without him. But it wasn't anything he hadn't dealt with before.
Louis eventually came in 5 minutes late and took his usual spot beside Harry but they didn't speak at all. People stared at Harry the entire time and he was just waiting for it to pass by.
