"God, there's so many," Cady says anxiously, clinging to Janis' hand as they go to pick out their Christmas tree.

"Yeah. But we'll pick the perfect one," Janis replies. "What are you doing?"

"Smells good," Cady says, continuing to sniff the air. "I wanna go this way, these are pretty."

"Cads, no," Janis says. "Those are Colorado blues, they're sharp."

"Really?" Cady asks. She reaches out to feel a branch. "Owie."

"I told you," Janis chuckles. "This way, come on. These ones are less sharp."

"Whoa," Cady says. "How do you even get trees this tall?"

"I dunno," Janis shrugs. "Plant them and leave them for a few years, I guess."

"They're all so pretty," Cady sighs happily. "You match."

Janis squeaks in embarrassment and looks at the ground. Her blush is hot enough to instantly melt any little snowflakes landing on her cheeks. Cady laughs and pulls her into a hug, kissing the tip of her nose.

"You're too easy to fluster," she giggles. "You're so cute. My precious little punk."

"Stop it," Janis whines, turning her head away from her girlfriend. Cady takes the opportunity to kiss her cheek.

"Mm, no, I don't think I will, thank you," Cady says. "I know you secretly love it. And you need to know how important you are to me. How much I love you."

"I do love it, but it makes my brain stop functioning correctly, and I can't deal with that in public," Janis says, still refusing to look at Cady.

Cady laughs again and kisses her cheeks again, trying to coax her to look. "Okay, I won't tease you anymore. Until we get home. I do need you to be functional enough to drive."

"Thanks, I appreciate it," Janis says sarcastically. "Pick your tree, you little dork."

"It's our tree," Cady pouts. "You have to help."

"I have to?" Janis chuckles. "Okay, well, we don't have twenty foot ceilings, for a start, so let's go to the shorter ones."

Cady shrieks in surprise as Janis hauls her onto her back piggyback style and sets off. She nuzzles in and kisses Janis' neck, warmed by her scarf. "But I want a big one."

"That's well and good, but none of these will even fit into our front door," Janis replies.

"Oh."

"The little ones will look bigger by comparison once we get it in, you'll see. And we don't have enough ornaments to fill these, anyway," Janis says. Cady starts swinging her legs contently and humming a little tune into Janis' ear.

"Okay. But we have to get the most perfect tree. It's our first Christmas we get to spend together together, it has to be beautiful," she says.

"I'm sure whatever we pick will be perfect for us," Janis replies, squealing at the ticklish kisses Cady peppers around her ear.

"I love you."

"I love you too," Janis hums. "But I'm gonna drop you if you keep that up."

"Oops," Cady giggles. "Sorry."
