A/N: This one's hella short but it just randomly came to me.

The Fellowship of the Ring had been travelling for weeks now. In the search of fresh water to refill their canteens, they came across a most astonishing and beautiful creature.

The woman walked across the surface of the still lake. Her feet barely made ripples and the glittering fish beneath the water paid her no mind. Her skin was pale and nearly translucent, her hair so long, it nearly grazed the back of her knees, starlight silver billowing on non-existent wind, waving and rippling like it was suspended in water.

She gently paced towards a Doe as it drank at the crystal clear, lake edge. She smiled softly at the creature as it raised its head to acknowledge her before huffing and moving its head side to side. From the brush came a small Faun, its brown coat spotted with white. It hesitantly moved towards the lakes edge but jumped back when its nose dipped in the cool water.

The Water Nymph laughed, a light sound that rang like small bells and caused a gently breeze to sway through the surrounding trees.

From the other side of the lake, the Fellowship crouched. Legolas had halted the quest for water when he had spotted the angelic creature. Nymphs were so very rare, and were not a force you'd wish to tussle with. Known to be extremely powerful, stunningly beautiful, and very elusive.

To lay eyes upon one was a great blessing to them all, and Legolas had instantly stopped them from touching the water, and forced them all to be quiet, crouching in the brush near the lakes edge to not disturb her.

The Nymph stepped off the water and moved to kneel before the Faun. Where her bare feet touched the ground, fresh, lush, green grass bloomed and sprouted. As her long sliver-blue gown left the water surface it broke from it as if the gown had been a part of the water.

She cupped her hands together and clear water filled them, flowing over her fingers and to the ground in a soft stream. The Faun happily moved to lap the water from her hands and she smiled gently at it.

Legolas watched on in pure adoration at the Angel before them. Merry lent against Pippin's back and Pip slipped slightly his foot breeching the waters surface. Legolas turned to the Hobbit with a fury the others had never seen on the Elf before.

The Nymph felt the break of the waters surface and froze, suddenly melting into water and disappearing completely. The Doe and her Faun sensed the danger of the Nymphs disappearance and feld in a skittish manner.

Legolas glanced back across the lake, as the deer took off, to see the beautiful Nymph was gone.

"You fool!" Legolas scorned the poor fearful hobbit.

"You've scared her away!" He added as he glanced back across the water, his heart sinking at the loss of the beautiful woman.

"Not quite." The Fellowship spun on their heels, standing at the sound of the soft feminine voice. Boromir drew his sword as the turned to face the Water Nymph.

"How dare you!" Legolas reprimanded the man as he yanked Boromir's sword from his hands and tossed it to the Dunedain's feet, before turning to stare at the Water Nymph as she giggled at him. He looked at her with wide eyes, a small smile lifting at his lips at the soft sound.

"It is alright. It would do me no harm anyway " The Nymph said softly as completely white eyes flittered over the party, watching them all with blatant curiosity and amusement. She met the Elf's blue eyes before disappearing again, reappearing behind him on the surface of the water again. They spun to find her again and stopped and stared as she smiled at them before waving a hand out, water dripping from her palm.

"You may quench your thirst by my Lake." She said before sinking into the surface, melting into water and disappearing completely.

The group waited in silence for a few moments, but when the Nymph did not reappear again, they made to the Lake's edge and filled their flasks, basking in the fresh, cool water.
