The two of them walked into the party prepared to complete their mission, her in a beautiful red dress and him in a black suit with his signature dark blue tie.
"Do you remember the objective?" she questioned while surveying the large room.
"Find the host and eliminate them." Quackity also surveyed the room filled with people.
She nodded, signalling them to go their separate ways.
Her eyes scanned through the people but found no hint as to who the host was. Everyone looked the same in their suit and dresses.
Without raising suspension, she asked many of the party attendees who sent the invitation but no clues as to who it was.
She had spent a few hours asking, all saying it was anonymous.
Except one.
The person had brought the invitation and let her look over it.
There was something she had noticed. Something familiar. A smile.
But not any smile. A ':]' was shown on the corner of the invitation.
She had seen it before but she couldn't quite remember where.
She sighed, something wasn't clicking in her brain.
She needed some fresh air if she was going to continue investigating.
The hot and crowded ballroom did her no justice at all.
Once she opened the balcony doors, she was greeted with the chill of the night air and the sound of water colliding with the rocks below her.
The moon illuminated the night sky and even the large body of water in front of her.
She stared at the ocean, deep in thought.
Her head turned to the door but turned back when she noticed him.
He closed the doors behind him and inched forward.
"I think I found something."
"Me too, but you go first?" she rested her arms on the railing.
"There was this little smile on all of the invitations. Anyone could assume who sent them," he concluded.
"Yeah, I saw that too. But, his smile is different, it has a curve, not a bracket. I feel like we're missing something." her face scrunched.
"Like what? It's Dream's smile. He's from the rival gang so it makes sense."
"Yeah, it would make sense. If it were his smile."
"He could have changed it up to fuck with your mind! You know what he's like! He loves to play mind games!"
'Why is he being so persistent?' she thought.
Then it clicked.
She came with the party owner. It made sense now. The new suit that he had bought ahead of time. The mysterious behaviour and random important calls.
'Why hadn't I seen it sooner?'
And then she remembered where she had seen the smile before.
A cautious demeanour took the place of her former laid-back one.
"What if someone wanted to throw me off? To make me think it was him."
"And why would they do that?"
"Because they came to the party with me."
Deep down she hoped it wasn't him, but his silence was telling her otherwise.
"Oh, and it just dawned on me, where I saw the smile before." she straightened her back.
"Yeah? And where's that?" he raised an eyebrow.
"On the back of your hand. Below your thumb." she cursed herself for not realizing it right away.
"Which hand?"
"The one that's aiming a gun at the back of my head."
"Why would I shoot you when so many people would hear?"
"Because we both know that you don't go anywhere without your silencer."
"And I hate to say it, but I expected a smarter question from you. Maybe, "Why would I betray my own partner?"" she mocked.
"Or at least something that might hide the truth." she chuckled bitterly.
"You know me too well. Why should I hide it anymore?"
She turns slowly only to be faced with a silenced pistol pointed at her head.
"Wow, I should become a detective," she smirked.
"If only you had enough time for that." he let the slightest of grins slither onto his face.
"Heh, about that..." a small chuckle left her lips.
His face instantly fell but before he could pull the trigger, a foot collided with the spot just below his sternum.
The gun flew out of his hand and landed somewhere behind him as he collapsed to the ground, gasping for air.
"Sorry Q, but there's really no time to die."
He watched in pain as she climbed the railing and turned to salute him before falling backwards off of the balcony.
Quackity hurriedly scrambled to his feet and to the railing, but he was too late. She was nowhere in sight.
"FUCK!" he screamed in irritation.
He hadn't known why he was upset. He knew how smart she was. He never even expected to get that close to killing her.
Then again, he had no clue why he thought he could kill her when no one has ever succeeded in doing such a thing.
