The next few days were better. Better than they'd been in a long time. I was having serious doubts about getting back together with Dave, I mean I couldn't help but think Jennifer was better for him. Sure, we had a past and we knew each other so well. But was he sick of me? Sometimes I even think Jennifer was a better mother figure to Charlie. I let my child run away. Who lets that happen? I felt terrible. I guess it helped me to hear Dave and Charlie fuckin around in the living room together. Laughing, and making a bunch of noise. It was nice having a sort of family like this.

"Ew! Mom! Daddy said you—"

"Shh! Charlie!" Dave giggled stopping him mid sentence. I was now suddenly very intrigued, and happy to see Charlie wasn't worrying anymore. He seemed like a happy kid again, and that's all I wanted.

"What was that?" I asked stepping into the living room to see Dave giving Charlie a side eye that told him to "shut up" but I wasn't stopping there.

"Daddy said—"

"Charlie Lennon, don't speak another word. Do you want me to get killed?" Dave said trying to stop Charlie from speaking. I raised an eyebrow at Dave and quickly came up with an idea.

"Dairy Queen, Charlie. I'll get you whatever you want." I bribed him. He gasped loudly and look at his dad with pleading eyes.

"Charlie..." He warned in a low voice, "don't give in! Don't do it!"

"But it's Dairy Queen, dad!" Charlie whined basically begging his dad to let him tell me, "daddy said he loved your—"

"Charlie!" Dave warned again with a giggle. Charlie gave his dad another pleading look. God, I wanted to know so bad.

"Loved my what? What, Dave?" I asked with an eyebrow cocked.

"Your smile!" He said totally lying to me. Charlie shook his head to signal Dave was in fact not telling the truth, "fine! I said I loved your ass, Dani. But I was just trying to make Charlie laugh!" He said trying to shield himself from getting yelled at.

"David Grohl!" I scolded with a laugh, "what? So you don't love my ass?" I asked with a smile and giggle. Charlie laughed at me like he'd just heard the funniest thing all day.

"No! What? I never said that! I do love it but I was—" Dave said in that high pitched voice he gets when he's nervous.

"Get him, Charlie..." I said before Charlie tackled Dave in a hug and waved for me to join them on the living room floor. Rough housing was never my thing, but I'd do anything for my boys.

"I'm gonna kill you..." I giggled to Dave as he began tickling me and Charlie.

"Stop, Dave!" I laughed my ass off finally forgetting about everything that was worrying me. Then it hit me, all I needed to do was be with my family. Be with Dave, and Charlie. They always made me happier. Even when I had my doubts.
