Though I'd mostly taken on recon and investigation cases recently, I'd also gotten wrapped up in a few more Physical ones.

Tonight was one of those.

My dumbass downed extra strength serum instead of the pills and alcohol because I planned on staying in to work on my bots. That being said, my healing was halved and that in itself was bad. Especially since I got called in out of the blue.

Shit went sideways when the villain decided to blow up the bank that was currently still full of hostages.

I'd managed to get all but one of them out when the building fell into ruin.

I will not let you die.

The civi screamed as a piece of beam fell straight for her.

Mother-

I was in front of her in an instant.

Something ripped through my stomach and I crashed to the ground with a loud crack. "You're gonna be fine, miss. I'll get us both out of here." My voice changer made me sound creepy, so I tried to be comforting.

"Youーr bleeding." She looked down at my abdomen that currently had metal jutting out of it.

I lifted up the bottom of my mask so she could see my smile

Disguising my voice as gruff as I could, I said, "Don't worry about it. I'll get it looked at after we get you out of here."

I dropped the mask again and glitched us both out onto the street where heroes and other civilians were waiting. "I need a med over here. She was the last one in there." A few people rushed over.

My leg had been broken, but I did my best to stand tall.

Hero Endeavour approached me, "You look to be worse for wear too, Kurama." His voice was condescending and very clearly meant to make me feel inferior, "I can pay for your hospital fees if you'd like. I know you haven't been working lately."

"Hey, isn't that the asshole I went after when I took control a few years ago?" Glitch asked inside my head.

When she went berserk before I sealed them away, she basically handed Endeavour's ass to him on a silver platter. At the time it was bad, but then I learned he was a major, abusive douchecanoe.

Yeah, but he deserved it.

"Actually Enji, I've been working cases all over. Unlike you, I don't choose where I help based on media coverage and glory. Though, I'd doubt you could've missed my work in America."

His fire burned a little brighter, "So it was true? You're the one that took down those traffickers, then? Not a very heroic way of dealing with them...effective though, I'll give you that. You're not gonna stay in business if you scare the public."

"Who says? You're doing just fine." My jab wasn't missed. "Anyway, I'm not interested in gaining favor. I'm here to protect civs, not be praised by them." I turned my back on him and walked around the corner, blood trailing the whole way.

"Wait, Kurama! Can I get a statement from you?" A young cop chased after me.

Shit, I don't have time for this.

I tried to glitch to the park, but I only made it about halfway there before nearly passing out.

The adrenaline was wearing off and I was too exhausted to use Glitch's quirk.

After a few more steps my leg finally gave out and I tumbled to the ground, "Damn, we goin down."

I sat there still as my body painstakingly started to heal.
