"That's a hit for sure."

Normani puts her pen down, hearing the music that was playing fade out. It started to play again since it was on a loop but she paused it. Tonight was a late one at the studio, just about everyone went home but she decided to stay back. Her mind was racing, lyrics coming to her all at once, and she wanted to write it down and find the beat to it before it left her memory.

Her brown eyes looked over the words she wrote in her songbook where she holds all her lyrics in. Humming the beat while she sang the lyrics in her head-- whenever there was a lyric that didn't make sense or she knew how to word it better, she would erase what she had and replace it with the improved verse. This took about a few minutes before she decided to take a break.

She put her notebook down, sliding her placeholder into the book where she can keep her spot for later. Normani was starving, huffing, she looked around the room to see she didn't bring any snacks but her water bottle. Rolling her eyes, she slouched in her seat getting on the Uber Eats app to see what she had the taste for. After browsing the app, she settled for this BBQ place not that far from her. Of course, she could go get it herself but what if she needed to write something down? She'll have to hold it in her head until she returned. 9 times out of 10, she would've forgotten it. She got what she wanted and placed the order. Her order went through followed by her receipt being sent to her email confirming that her meal was confirmed and the payment was successful.

Knowing it was going to take a few minutes before her food got there, she decided to watch TV on the big flat-screen TV in the booth. Just then, she heard music and a familiar voice. The walls were paper thin. Anyone could hear what was being played or said in the next room over without even trying. Raising an eyebrow she wonder where she heard this voice from. To get a better listen, she stepped out of her studio propping the door open before heading in the direction. She stopped at the door and tried to look inside but it was dark but she could see some LED lights in the back. Her hand twisted the knob and it was unlocked. She walked inside but made sure not to draw attention to herself.

The girl didn't hear her since she was in the middle of recording a song. Music was playing as she read lyrics off her cracked phone screen. It wasn't that bad but it did look like someone swung a sledgehammer at that hoe but it was a thug, you know, holding onto its life. Normani walked into the room further when she was the brunette girl. Squinting her eyes, she noticed who she was looking at. Her former bandmate, ex-lover, Dinah Jane. Her heart dropped since they haven't talked or seen each other ever since the group went on hiatus.

Normani walked backward, trying to sneak out only to trip over the trash can. Dinah heard it since her headphones weren't on, she needed to hear how she sounded. She paused the music and turned the mic off. "Who's there?" She called out taking her headphones off. Normani cursed under her breath staying low when Dinah turned the lights on. She stepped out of the studio catching Normani squatted down. "Mani??" She questioned. Normani gets up, fixing her clothes, before clearing her throat. "That is I. I'm sorry for snooping. I heard you and I knew you sounded fa-" Normani came clean only for the brunette to tackle her into a hug. Normani blinked but found herself holding onto the taller girl. "Mani! I missed you so much!" Dinah said with a grin. "I missed you too, Dinah."

They broke the hug, stepping back to have a look at each other. They haven't changed much. "You look amazing," Dinah says. "Same to you. I see you let the blonde hair go." Mani teased her. Dinah smirked. "Oh, please. It'll be back in a week." She laughed. Normani chuckled, shaking her head. "I should've known. How are you?" The two started to catch up with each other-- Normani giving her condolences to Dinah for the relatives she lost. Dinah gave her praise for being an icon in the making. "I'm so proud of you. You went from the girl they tried to keep in the shadows to the girl that is in the spotlight." Dinah says. "I thought it was the best time to show the world what I truly could do. I think it's time for you to do the same." Mani says crossing her legs as they sat on the couch in Dinah's studio. "I will...when the time is right."

With the two catching up, Normani forgot about her order. They arrived and called her. She excused herself and got it. She came back and they continued to chat. Normani shared her food with Dinah, knowing she wouldn't eat all of it. "That song you were recording sounded amazing." Normani comments. "Really?? I wrote it myself. Well, my sister helped but I added the final touches on it."

"You two are good writers. I already knew that." Normani smiled. They wrote songs together in the past. Dinah nodded. "Yeahhh. I'm trying to get back in my songwriting bag." Dinah explains. "Ooooo, baby they ain't ready for that." Normani bumped shudders with Dinah who chuckled. "Aht Aht, they ain't ready for you. There's so much more to come and they ain't prepared. Hell neither am I." Dinah gushed about Normani. In the group, Dinah was her biggest supporter besides Lauren. Ally was too. Normani blushed to see that Dinah still supported her. "I've missed you a lot, Dinah."

"I missed you too...I would try my hardest to text you but-- well, I never thought you would respond." Normani grabbed Dinah's hand. "Why wouldn't I want you to reach out?" Dinah looked at their hands. "Because we haven't spoken since 2018. It's 2021. Besides, you're a star. You're everywhere so I didn't want to be a bother." Normani shook her head. "I'm never too busy for you. I missed hearing your voice, that laugh, and just having random conversations with you." Dinah smiled hearing that Normani missed her just as much as she missed her. That made her soul and heart smile. "How's the love life?" Dinah questioned. "I'm single." Normani nods eating a fry, letting go of Dinah's hand. Dinah shrugged her shoulders. "Oh, well, would you give the chance to stop that?" Dinah asked. Normani looked at her. "Are you trying to ask me out again?"

"Maybe. We can start as" Normani grinned and kissed her on the spot. They broke up because Dinah didn't want to hold Normani back when they would be in different places, doing different things, etc. So she let go of Mani but she instantly regretted it the moment she watched her baby walk away from her. She would watch her Instagram stories, comment here and there, but never really received it back until normani would like and comment on certain posts. Dinah kissed her back, pulling from the kiss, she hugged Normani tightly. "I love you mani." Normani held onto her. "I love you more. This time, let's make it work. No matter what." She comments. "You got it."
