*Stephen's POV*
The quiet sound of passing cars and low rumble from the air conditioning roused me from my sleep. My head hurt and I felt a steady pulse of energy seeping into my skin through my clothes all across my side and back. I slowly opened my eyes to the sight of what I assumed was the back of a car seat. I was resting atop someone's legs, thought it didn't feel like a person. It felt cold. It didn't even seem like they were breathing.
Where was I?
I looked over from the seat to a young woman in the passenger side. She was staring quietly out of the window while filing her long black nails.
"Hey Matty," the driver said. His voice was deep and forceful.
"Yeah?" The guy, Matty, I was laying on answered him.
"How's Stephen? He awake? His heartbeat changed."
They know me? How was that possible?
I felt Matty shift under me and lift my face to meet his. I closed my eyes quickly and willed my heartbeat to slow down and even out.
"He's okay. Still asleep though. He must be dreaming."
"Alright. We should be at the house in a little while. An hour tops. Don't wake him. He'll need his rest if he's gonna deal with the pack. Who knows what they're gonna do to him."
The pack? What's that? Why am I being taken there? Where's my aunt Linda? Why aren't I at school? Oh no... I've been kidnapped!! Ugh, I knew walking in the woods to get to school would be a bad idea. Dammit, Stephen! Why do you always have to take the easy way out?
"Do to him? What do you mean?" Matty asked.
"The packs probably been on edge since one of they're future Betas was taken. They're gonna flip when he gets back."
I heard Matty hum his response before he seemed to relax. I took this opportunity to open one of my eyes and see who one of my kidnappers was. That's when I saw him. A pale looking boy with glowing blue eyes sipping slowly on a bag of blood.
After that, I flipped. Looking up quickly, I found the handle to the door and pulled on it only to find it was locked.
Ignoring the shouts from those around me, I punched Matty square in the jaw before reaching out for the other door. Before I could grab the handle, I felt a surge of energy fly from my hand, ripping the door off its hinge. The car swerved on the open freeway between a dense mass of trees as I jumped out and landed on the soft, moist dirt.
I made no attempt to look back as I ran into the woods. My lungs burned and my feet ached in my boots as I pushed on and away from the car. I looked back only a split second to see the guy I punched running after me and calling my name; his eyes were still glowing that ghostly blue from before.
I skidded to a stop and turned on my heel to face him. I held my hand out, my instincts telling me to flip it to the side, and I did. I watched as his head snapped to his left, his neck breaking instantly. He fell to the forest floor with a thud as I sank to my knees.
I killed him... I thought.
I stared down at my hands and then back up towards his body. It was then that I saw two other guys coming to a stop near the lifeless corpse. I watched as one of them fall to the ground next to it and hold it to his chest. Not a moment later, a fierce howl escaped his lips, loud and hollow and broken. I was so entranced by the scene that I didn't notice the other was staring at me with sad eyes.
I saw as a stray tear fell from his eyes before I felt a sharp pain in the back of my head and everything faded to black.
