*Matthew's POV*

Something wasn't right. I took a large breath in and immidiately recoiled my chest in pain. It hurts to breathe? What's wrong with me?

I opened my eyes and was met with the overly clear sight of a young man reading a book. He smelled delicious. A mixture of rain water and cherry. He didn't notice I was staring. I couldn't help but notice something was off about him. He reminded me of a puppy.

"It's rude to stare you know." His voice was smoothe and low.

"Sorry."

"What's your name?"

"Matthew, but everyone calls me Matty."

"Well, Matty, how do you feel?" He asked me, not looking up from his book. He seemed relaxed, but his rapid heartbeat said so otherwise.

"Why can I hear your heart?"

"You didn't answer my question."

"You didn't answer mine." I said sharply. Why was he being so crass?

"You hear my heartbeat because your ears are tuned in to sounds that they couldn't normally pick up. It helps with hunting. Mine do the same thing." That's when he looked at me. Our eyes connected and his face said he knew something I didn't.

"What? What's wrong?" I asked. Ignoring the strange feelings that accompanied his stare and the persistant burning in the back of my throat and dryness of my mouth.

"Nothing. Just, um... stay here, okay? I'm gonna go get you something to drink."

He walked off and I was left with questions running through my head. Something's obviously wrong here and no one wants to tell me.

He returned with a glass filled with dark liquid that looked rather unappetizing, but smelled amazing. He handed it to me and before I knew it, I had chugged the entire glass down in seconds. The burning in my throat subsided slightly and was less intense.

"Thanks," I said. "What was that?"

"Blood." He answered flatly.

"What?! Blood?!" I felt my stomach turn in on itself and I wanted to puke. "Why would you give me blood to drink?! Haven't you heard of water?!"

"Whoa! Calm down, dude. That's what you eat."

"That's what I eat?! What are you talking about?!"

He stared at me and realization swept across his handsome features.

"You don't know what you are do you?"

"Don't know what I am? I'm a person! Aren't I?"

James looked at me with sad eyes, "Matty, you're a vampire."

The word slammed into me without warning and left me half chuckling, half choking. Air feeling like a foreign substance in my unwavering lungs. Before I had the chance to register anything else from this parallel world, darkness enclosed me.

I woke with the same painful airless lung spasm as before, only this time, people were watching. I opened and closed my eyes rapidly to clear my blurred vision and took in the sight of two other guys. Both of them looked to be around my age, maybe older.

The first one that caught my eye gave off the same feeling that James did. A feeling that told me he was more than just your average high schooler. Handsome, strong, and very protective of who I presume to be his boyfriend.

The other was standing next to him. He was tall with wild hair that screamed to be touched. His eyes held a pang of pity that I'm sure he genuinly felt. He gave off a completely different feeling than the boy whose fingers were gently intertwined with his. He gave off this aura of strong energy. I was drawn to him for some reason.
