Chapter Sixteen

*Stephen's POV*

I woke to the smell of damp wood and rust. My head felt as though someone bashed it against the wall and my ears were ringing. I opened and closed my eyes as they fell in and out of focus.

"What are we gonna do with him now?"

"Once we get this in his system we'll be fine." I recognized one of the voices. Jessica. The others seemed foreign.

"What is it?"

"Just a little something to loosen him up. It'll help us with his mutt of a boyfriend too."

"Sounds fun."

"It won't be for him."

*Tony's POV*

The pack house was quiet and dark when we returned from the meeting. I was tired but eager to leave.

"When are we leaving?" I asked James.

"As soon as I get Matty." He replied.

"Marcus made it clear it was to only be the four of us. Bringing your Vampire mate could complicate things." Gabriel said.

"The other packs won't like a vampire on their territory no matter how human he may seem." Liliana added.

Gabriel was a tall, muscular wolf with smooth, tanned skin. His voice was low and gave off a strong aura of authority. He was handsome to say the least and an Alpha no doubt, but he may not be in power quite yet.

His smaller counterpart was also stunning in the looks department. She had fair skin with dark brown hair that flowed flawlessly down her shoulders when it wasn't pulled back in a ponytail. She had her nails painted a deep black, matching her all black outfit.

In short, they were intimidating.

"I'm well aware of what he said, and trust me, I'd rather keep him out of it, but he could help us find him. Stephen's scent will only get us so far, but Matty is drawn to his energy and it could help." James looked from Liliana to Gabriel in hopes they understood him.

"Fine, he can come. But he'll have to learn a few things before we go." Gabriel said.

"What do you mean by learn a few things?" I asked.

"Go get him."

James ran into the house and came back a few minutes later with a very nervous looking Matty.

"We only have a few hours before the sun comes up so let's get things started."

"Wait, what are we doing?" Matty asked.

"We're going to trian you. If you're coming with us to find Stephen then you're going to have to be able to defend yourself."

"Who's we?" Matty looked very uncomfortable and I could tell he'd much rather just stand in the sidelines.

"I'm Gabriel, but you can call me Gabe."

"And I'm Liliana. Lilly for short."

Matty attempted what would be a smile and then looked to James.

"You'll be fine." James said.

Matty nodded and then followed Gabe and Lilly into the front edge of the forest. James and I followed them.

"You okay?" I asked James. He still seemed nervous and on the edge.

"Yeah. I just haven't told him yet."

"You know he's gonna find out eventually. I mean, the way he looks at you already says he feels it." He looked at me and chuckled.

"I know. Let's just hope he gets through this first."
