Chapter 8

Aspyn looked up from crying and noticed that the wolves mysteriously disappeared.

“Look” she said, “You scared them away.”

“No,” said Terrence, “they got tired of your crying.” Faster than he could blink, there was Aspyn, with an arrow aimed at his heart.

“You should be careful of what you say.” She warned.

“So what? I’m the one with a powerful sword.”

“I’m the one with the skill.” After that, no one said anything for a while considering that both people felt hurt.

“Umm… you guys… THE FOREST IS ON FIRE! GET OUT!” said a very familiar voice on the loud speaker.

“Rebecky?” asked Terrence, “How are you talking to us?”

    “Yeah?” Aspyn agreed.

“Does it matter?! Just get out of there before you burn to death!”

“She’s right,” said Aspyn, “I found a way out. There’s a path without fire right there. It’s narrow, but if we’re careful, we can get out without getting burnt.” So, Aspyn and Terrence carefully ran through the path until they found a cabin. When they went in a girl was in a chair, tied up, and gagged.

“Rika!?” Terrence asked, surprised. Rika tried to say something, but it sounded more like “Mmph mmmph!”

“Terrence, who is this?” Aspyn asked. She wasn’t going to trust just anyone, but if Terrence trusted her, she thought it would be alright.

“This is Rika, my district partner.” Terrence said while taking the gag off of Rika.

    “Thank you!” said Rika

“Wait, I thought she died. We had this argument just a little while ago.” said Aspyn.

“Yeah about that,” said Rika, “I was carrying some berries I found in the woods, the lion squished them and tore my jacket, and I escaped. It just looked like I died.”

“So, how did you get here?” Terrence asked.

“The game makers found me, after making the announcement that only one from each district was alive, and apparently decided it would be funny to make me a surprise for you.”

“So that’s why there was a path without fire.” Aspyn said, “They wanted us to find you.”

“Yeah, I guess so.” answered Rika.

    “So,” said Terrence, “What now?”

“Well, you can start by untying me.” Rika reminded them. So, Aspyn began working at the knots binding Rika to the chair.

“Do you know if anyone else escaped?” Aspyn asked as she worked, “I just wanted to know if my district partner escaped. We were… well… I… I just want to know if he’s okay.”

“I remember him. He was a good guy.” Rika replied.

    “Was?” asked Aspyn.

“I… I’m so sorry.” answered Rika.

“It’s fine. By the way, I’m Aspyn Catalpa.” said Aspyn, trying to lighten the mood.

“I know.” said Rika with a smile, “I’ve been watching you guys. You had a pretty heated argument back there, which I’m sure the Capitol loved.”

“Wait, how did you watch us?” asked Terrence. Rika pointed at a huge television screen that was right in front of them.

“Oh.” Said Terrence, a little embarrassed. There was an awkward silence until Aspyn spoke.

“Okay, if we’re going to get out of here alive, we need to get out of here.” she said.

“Yeah,” Rika agreed, “I’m really thirsty. Do you know where a lake or a river is?”

“Wasn’t there a river near the coliseum?” asked Terrence.

“Yes, there was, but the question is, how do we get there” Aspyn wondered.

“I don’t know,” said Rika, who was looking out the window, “but we need to leave now. The fire’s getting closer.”
