Chapter 10

When Terrence and Aspyn got in the coliseum, they were the last ones there. Inside, there were chariots for each district except for eight, ten, and eleven.

"This Hunger Games will come to a special end. We will have a chariot race! The first to reach the finish line, alive, will be this year's victor! So, may the odds, or the horses, be ever in your favor!" said the announcer.

"Wow," said Aspyn, who had already put on her armor while the announcer was talking, "that was a really bad joke. Suit up while I go look at our competition." and she walked away.

While Terrence was trying to put on his armor, he noticed Aspyn talking to the person from District Six. He's probably one of her allies, he thought.

    Soon Aspyn was back.

"You shouldn't have any problems. Most of the tributes think you'll die within the first lap without anyone touching you. They won't bother with you." she said.

"Wow. That's encouraging." said Terrence doubtfully, "So, how do you drive a chariot." he asked. Aspyn sighed and showed him how to start, steer, and stop.

"That should be all you need to know." said Aspyn.

"Tributes to your places." said the announcer.

"Hey, Aspyn." said Terrence, "Whatever happens, I just want to let you know, you've been… um… thanks for saving my life all those times."

"No problem." Aspyn said with the same cheery smile she had when they had first met, "Good luck."

"You too." Terrence said as they rode to the starting line. Three… Two… One… GO! The chariots were off. Aspyn flew past. Her hair had come out of her braid and was flying behind her. The chariots from District Three and District Four crashed. Everyone else finished the first lap with ease. Then, the tributes started to get violent. The last minute driving lessons actually helped me. Once again, Aspyn saved my life. Terrence thought as he turned to dodge an incoming chariot. It was District Six and he had his eyes on Aspyn, and he didn't look like he wanted to help her.

"Aspyn look out!" Terrence yelled. Too late. With a huge cloud of dust, Aspyn crashed into a wall.

"No!" Terrence exclaimed. He caught up with District Six.

"I thought you were her friend!" he said.

"You thought wrong." replied the tribute. They both brought out their swords and had a battle while riding the chariots. Terrence won, but he noticed that he was in last place now.

"This is for you Aspyn!" he said. Aspyn had saved his life; the least he could do was avenge her death. He destroyed everyone in his path. He was the last one on the track. He hurried to cross the finish line.

"Congratulations Terrence Everdeen! You are the winner of the twenty-fifth annual Hunger Games and the first Quarter Quell!"
