Lauren's POV
Before I go into work today, I'm meeting Ally at a local coffee shop. She wanted to meet me as soon as possible, but I thought nothing of it. I walk up to the table where she sat, and I take off my glasses as I sit down."Hey Ally, you wanted to meet? You could've just come to mine after work." I say, looking at my watch as this might make me late for work. I see that she's already ordered me a coffee for herself and me. I smile in thanks.
She doesn't smile as she normally does, rather her face is quite emotionless.
—"I'm afraid this couldn't wait, Lauren." Her tone was serious.
I frown, in confusion, "Okay..."
She takes a deep breath.
—"A couple days ago, I went by your house because I wanted to hang out. But you weren't home."
I nod, and she continues, "I went into your room, thinking maybe you were having a nap in your bed, but I found that you forgot your phone on your bed after you left for work."
I gulp, knowing where this was going.
—"And I have to admit, I was being snoopy. I saw your call log and saw the outgoing calls to that number."
My heart beats like crazy. I've been caught, there was no getting out of this now.
—"I know you've been talking to Camila! Do you know how much trouble you're getting yourself in Lauren? This is completely absurd." She harshly whispers across the small table.
I huff out, "Ally, please keep this between us, I can't have anyone else knowing." I whisper back, desperate.
—"I cannot believe you Lauren, this is single-handedly the most stupidest thing you've ever done. This will ruin your career, and you'll end up in prison for this. You're communicating with an incarcerated inmate, not to mention, the most dangerous inmate in the whole facility! Wake up Lauren!"
I listen to her hurtful words, but I knew she was right. As much as it hurt, I knew deep down that everything Camila and I have is wrong.
"Ally, please let me explain myself. I can't excuse what I've done. I know it was wrong, but I'm being completely honest with every word I'm about to say."
My breath hitches, and I start to feel insecure.
"I'm in love with her, Ally."
Her head falls into her hands.
—"There are so many other girls out there Lauren, and you had to choose the inmate you're studying?"
I start to grow defensive, "I can't help who I feel like this with, okay?"
—"Don't act like love is an excuse for this Lauren! This is wrong!"
"I know Ally. I know." I cross my arms, not knowing how to continue. She was right.
—"I don't know what to do Lauren. I'm obviously going to keep this to myself, but I'm mad that you are putting yourself at risk here."
"I knew all the risks involved with talking to Camila over the phone Ally. This was my decision, so I don't need you telling me what I should do. This is something I need to figure out."
I get up from the table, "I'm going to be late for work."
—"Lauren, please be careful. If you get caught, you're done." She sighs.
"I got it under control." I say, still trying to convince myself that it's under control.
My feet swift into the driver's side of my Mercedes, and I zoom off to work.
